Speciální stránky jsou stránky s obsahem, který se vygeneruje až na základě požadavku. Mají svůj vlastní jmenný prostor (Special) a jejich obsah nelze editovat, tak jak je tomu u běžných wiki stránek.

Některé speciální stránky jsou závislé i na osobních nastaveních uživatele, jako například počtu změn, které se zobrazují v rámci uživatelského seznamu sledovaných stránek.

Speciální stránky také přijímají parametry, např. Special:Log/block vás přesměruje do protokolu blokovaných uživatelů.

Pro zobrazení adresáře všech speciálních stránek použijte Special:SpecialPages.

Úprava stránek speciálního jmenného prostoru

Jmenný prostor Special: znamená speciální stránky generované MediaWiki. Neexistuje žádný odpovídající prostor pro diskuse. Speciální stránky nejsou tvořeny wikitextem, a proto je nelze upravovat jako jiné stránky.

Obvykle obsahují systémové zprávy z jmenného prostoru MediaWiki, které mohou upravovat administrátoři rozhraní.

Znak ampersand (&) není povolen.

Odkazování, transkludování nebo přesměrování na speciální stránku

Můžete odkazovat speciální stránku, jako byste to udělali pro jakoukoli jinou interní stránku. Např. [[Special:Diff|see diff page]]. Některé speciální stránky mohou za lomítkem přijímat hodnotu parametru. Např. [[Special:Diff/6372234]] přesměruje uživatele na ID revize 6372234 této stránky.

Některé speciální stránky jsou transcludable, některé jiné nikoli. Můžete například přeložit seznam posledních změn pomocí {{Special:RecentChanges}}. Ale zahrnutím {{Special:Random}} získáme Special:Random.

Nelze vytvořit přesměrování na speciální stránku: Zobrazí se odkaz na tuto stránku, nikoli přímé přesměrování na ni. Některé speciální stránky však mají vestavěné aliasy, které na ně přesměrovávají.

Odkazy obsahující řetězce URL dotazů

Protože ampersand (&) není povolen, nemůžete vytvořit standardní odkaz s &action=edit nebo &redirect=no v řetězci dotazu URL.

Alias názvu stránky a lokalizace

Na rozdíl od jiných jmenných prostorů není první nadpis stránek ve jmenném prostoru Special: konzistentní s názvem stránky v adrese URL. Předpona Special: se nezobrazuje a text nadpisu se může od názvu stránky trochu lišit

Každá speciální stránka má výchozí anglický název, ale může mít také aliasy, tedy jiné speciální názvy stránek, které na ni přesměrovávají. Kromě toho jsou na neanglických wiki (tj. $var odlišný od "$code") speciální názvy stránek lokalizovány a anglické názvy jsou aliasy, které přesměrovávají na lokalizovaný název stránky.

Lokalizované aliasy fungují pouze v jednom jazyce na wiki, kromě anglických. Např. italské speciální názvy stránek fungují pouze na italských wikináchny. Vícejazyčné wiki s rozšířením Translate podporují pouze anglické názvy.

Samotná předpona jmenného prostoru Special: může být lokalizována v závislosti na jazyce obsahu wiki.

Například v každém jazyce projektu se slovo používané pro "Special" ve speciálních názvech stránek, jako je Special:Statistics, liší. Zde je ekvivalentní termín v každém jazyce:

Seznam speciálních stránek

Special:SpecialPages zobrazuje seznam téměř všech speciálních stránek na wiki. Často je propojen v toolboxem na bočním panelu.

• Special:NewPages – This displays new pages with creation date, time, size, creator, and first edit summary.
