Manual:Wiki family - installing a wiki farm

What does "you can use "listen" on the multiple server names. " mean exactly?

QUOTE: Enable your web server to share your MediaWiki install with all wikis.

For multiple (sub)domains, you can use "listen" on the multiple server names.

For multiple subdirectories, you could use: rewrite rules, aliases, or symlinks.

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Wiki_family#Wiki_Farm Thanks in advance.

Bawolff hi again bawoff thanks for response.
It sounds like they are talking about virtual hosts (some web servers use a config directive named listen for that), but i agree its terribly phrased.
no idea; listen may refer to TCP listen.
  1. LISTEN server TCP/IP call :::This LISTEN call tells the TCP⁄IP address space that the server is ready to begin accepting connections.
Wladek92 (talkcontribs)
when server is operational after start up, means of communication in or/and out (ports, sockets...) are open to receive or send requests to other servers. Listening is to wait a command on an input port and process it. Please general information about servers on Linux, Apache, or other to get common with the terminology. In a farm of wikis servers exchange messages to each other. Of course they know each other the configuration of the network for that. -- Christian 🇫🇷 FR (talk) 07:58, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi. I've been curious about this for a while, but it seems that the <translate> tags are missing in your markup.

You might not be able to tell by looking at this diff, and it's not documented in the manual. If needed, I can provide an explanation.

Wladek92 (talkcontribs)

My translations are still running on this page and even not yet reread. Please dont mind. There is still a lot of other work to do !

Shirayuki (talkcontribs)

Even so, if you could pay attention to using proper markup, it would save me some effort.

Did this solve it? Seems strange that someone should have to be an interface admin to fix the problem you're trying to fix.

(Thanks for your work!)

i leave this point open, i still dont understand the logic of that since another user has copied what i wanted to do. -- Christian 🇫🇷 FR (talk) 15:45, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi! would it be possible for you to translate this message? It's really short and should be a piece of cake for you. When the translation's ready, I'll send it to 40 francophone users who gave feedback mentioned in the message. Thanks!

Just add French translation right below English text, in my sandbox.

Wladek92 (talkcontribs)

ok i do right now.

Wladek92 (talkcontribs)

done; one Zywiec !

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talkcontribs)
They haven't uploaded nice Żywiec photos on Commons :/

Moze nastepny raz wystartczy tylko Go zawiadomic...

... merci, it should have worked then. But I dont know why it was not operational. ... may be for cache/purge reasons.

Yeah it probably needed an edit to trigger reparsing of the translatable page which adds the automatic anchors.

Christian 🇫🇷 FR (talk) 13:38, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Patafisik (WMF) (talkcontribs)

[WMF Board of Trustees - Call for feedback: Community Board seats] Meetings with MediaWiki and Wikitech communities

1
MediaWiki message delivery (talkcontribs)

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is organizing a call for feedback about community selection processes between February 1 and March 14. While the Wikimedia Foundation and the movement have grown about five times in the past ten years, the Board’s structure and processes have remained basically the same. As the Board is designed today, we have a problem of capacity, performance, and lack of representation of the movement’s diversity. Our current processes to select individual volunteer and affiliate seats have some limitations. Direct elections tend to favor candidates from the leading language communities, regardless of how relevant their skills and experience might be in serving as a Board member, or contributing to the ability of the Board to perform its specific responsibilities. It is also a fact that the current processes have favored volunteers from North America and Western Europe. In the upcoming months, we need to renew three community seats and appoint three more community members in the new seats. This call for feedback is to see what processes can we all collaboratively design to promote and choose candidates that represent our movement and are prepared with the experience, skills, and insight to perform as trustees?

In this regard, two rounds of feedback meetings are being hosted to collect feedback from the technical communities in Wikimedia. Two rounds are being hosted with the same agenda, to accomodate people from various time zones across the globe. We will be discussing ideas proposed by the Board and the community to address the above mentioned problems. Please sign-up according to whatever is most comfortable to you. You are welcome to participate in both as well!

Also, please share this with other volunteers who might be interested in this. Let me know if you have any questions. KCVelaga (WMF), 14:38, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
