Bots sind automatisierte oder halbautomatisierte Prozesse, die Seiten mit reduzierter oder ohne menschliche Kontrolle bearbeiten. Da Bots die Server-Ressourcen belasten oder versehentlich das Projekt stören können, müssen Bots spezielle Richtlinien und Leitfäden befolgen. Außerdem können Bots absichtlich genutzt werden, um sehr schnell großen Schaden anzurichten, weshalb Bots, die ohne Erlaubnis (ein Bot-"Flag") sehr schnell Bearbeitungen tätigen oder fragwürdige Bearbeitungen vornehmen, sofort gesperrt werden. Es ist nicht erlaubt, einen Bot auf einem normalen (menschlichen) Konto laufen zu lassen, ein Bot muss ein eigenes Benutzerkonto haben, das grundsätzlich das Wort "Bot" im Namen haben und idealerweise eine Verbindung zum Betreiber herstellen sollte (z.B. User:RobBot betrieben von User:Robchurch). MediaWiki.org folgt grundsätzlich der Richtlinie auf Meta; da es sich jedoch um ein Entwicklungsprojekt handelt, sind Vertrauenswürdigkeit und Erfahrung der Benutzer von größter Wichtigkeit und es ist wenig bis keine Diskussion für die Erteilung oder den Entzug eines Bot-Flags erforderlich. Aus Sicherheitsgründen kann inaktiven Bots das Flag entzogen werden, da das Flag lediglich anzeigen soll, dass ein Bot für genehmigte Aufgaben in relativ hoher Geschwindigkeit Bearbeitungen tätigen darf. Da dies ein Entwicklerprojekt ist, gelten die normalen Regeln für Bots aus anderen WMF-Projekten hier nicht, insbesondere nicht für Entwickler.

Es gibt zwar einige Anwendungen für Bots auf mediawiki.org, dies ist jedoch nicht vergleichbar mit WMF-Projekten, die auf Inhalten der Gemeinschaft basieren, wie Wikipedia. Bitte stelle eine Anfrage auf Project:Requests, wenn du auf MediaWiki.org einen Bot laufen lassen möchtest. Du kannst auch einen Bürokraten auf seiner Diskussionsseite oder im IRC ansprechen, Anfragen von neuen, unerfahrenen oder unbekannten Benutzern werden jedoch grundsätzlich abgelehnt.

Registrierte Bots

Beachte, dass "MediaWiki default" ein interner Account der MediaWiki-Software ist, der genutzt wird, wenn aufgrund einer Installation oder eines Aktualisierungsprozesses inhaltliche Änderungen erfolgen.   • A bot that checks all links from this site to meta (both using the meta: interwiki prefix, and by full URL [1]), and if that page is a redirect to MW.org replaces the external link with the correct internal one. Ideally (though it's not a requirement) the bot should follow redirects if the meta redirect is out of date.   • A bot that checks through all pages that contain Template:SettingSummary and updates Manual:Configuration settings and Manual:Configuration settings (alphabetical). This is probably not quite possible at the moment, due to extra info on the page that shouldn't be lost by an update. If there is someone interested in writing this bot, then we will need to do a bit of a clean-up first, I think.   • A bot that checks categories of non-English pages (which you can tell by the sub-page part), and if the page is categorised into the English category tree, to fix the category link, so it points to the same place in the appropriate language tree ([[Category:English category name/cc]], where cc is the country code.     • The {{historical}} template had translation markup added, and now breaks in ~200 pages. Fixing it, just requires adding TNT| like this diff for example. Would this be a reasonable bot job?   • Replace raw tabbed window markup with templates
    • Special:Search/insource:mw-gadget-tabbedwindow lists the pages which use raw HTML instead of the dedicated templates {{TabbedWindowBegin}} and {{TabbedWindowEnd}}; they should be updated to use the template, both for self-documentation and to make it easier to improve the tabbed window interface in the future. Typically, these are dedicated subpages using the same pattern, so it would involve replacing the first two lines and the last line of the page (but I haven't reviewed if every single page follows the same pattern).     This request was apparently overlooked because it was originally placed in the section above for ongoing bot jobs. This page was confusing as it wasn't clear whether the prior sections were for requested bot jobs or for requesting bot flags.
