Welcome to MediaWiki.org!

Yes, welcome! This site is dedicated to documenting the MediaWiki software, the software behind many wikis, including that of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
Please, take a look at the following pages. They might prove useful to you as a newcomer here:

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and find this site useful documentation of the MediaWiki software.

Translate quicklinks[edit]

Hi, some links you should go through to get started with Translate and familiarise with it a bit in order to understand what we're talking about.

--Nemo 15:38, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the links. I will go through them and get back to you soon :) BPositive (talk) 15:51, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Help:Special pages preparation[edit]

Thanks for the start. Let me note that full docs are at Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation administration; I'll just mention the things that need fixing, you'll find the details in the manual.

  • <languages/> must be added at top instead of {{languages}}.
  • Needs empty line after each header.
  • Translatable templates must be called via {{TNT}}.
  • Category must be inserted with {{Langcat}}.
  • Each and every link must use Special:MyLanguage syntax/prefix.
  • Quotations of interface elements should include the message in question directly via the int magic word, for instance in this case «Clicking the link Special:Specialpages» has in italics a link label that depends on user language. You can use, for instance, the qqx trick to find the message name.

Almost everyone makes these mistakes, don't worry. :) Read the whole manual and/or check all these points for the next time you ask a page to be marked for translation. --Nemo 13:32, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Join the GSoC & OPW IRC meeting[edit]

Hi! The community bonding period is over, and you should have started working on your project. In addition to the strict work, you are required to report frequently, see the details at the GSoC or OPW pages.

The Engineering Community team is organizing a Q&A session for all participants (mentors included) tomorrow Tuesday at #wikimedia-office connect, see Engineering Community Team/Meetings/2014-05-20. See you there!--Qgil (talk) 21:57, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Today[edit]

Milestone today. :) To get done today:

  1. tell Extension talk:Translate/Mass_migration_tools and mailing list(s) to test the feature here on mediawiki.org as soon as 1.24wmf8 is live here (around 18 UTC);
  2. add i18n etc. to the hover text patch and continue any other task. :)

Migrators[edit]

In addition to existing translation admins, you may want to check if any of the most active translations editors is interested in getting translation admin bit and helping migrating pages.[1] --Nemo 11:46, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Re:mass migration tools project[edit]

BPositive, I'm not a translation admin, so, I can't test your tool effectively. Moreover, I'd like to become a TA... But, thanks for the confidence. - Fabsouza1 (talk) 02:43, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

@BPositive:, I didn't see the apply link. I've already asked my flag. Thanks. - Fabsouza1 (talk) 14:43, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
@BPositive: You were right. TA flag granted. I will make the tests on your tool. ASAP. Thank you. - Fabsouza1 (talk) 14:37, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
