Novice user needs help backing up Wiki site

Dear colleagues,

I have been ordered to back up a Wiki site used internally on my employer's intranet site.

I found the following link to back up a Wiki :

And a link on this page taking me here :

Can anyone advise on what I need to fill in on this link? It asks for "Display pages starting at:" and "Display pages ending at:". What do I put in these fields? I tried inserting the url for my wiki site but this did not work.

Unfortunately I have no knowledge whatsoever about Mediawiki so have no idea how to back it up. None of the terminology means anything to me. I don't even know how to find out which version of Mediawiki I'm using! Any help appreciated.

Saving pages in Wiki; possible statistics

WMF branch sync with trunk

What's up with the WMF branch? When are updates to the trunk moved to the WMF branch? I see that there are issues fixed in the trunk for a couple of weeks now, but still not in effect in the WMF branch. (Referring to the English wikipedia here.)

Only few revisions from trunk are merged in the WMF branch (generally important fixes). You will have to wait until next full software update to have these fixes live on Wikipedia (don't ask me when this will happen; I don't know). iAlex 12:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The advice on the above page is about useless, RHL hasn't been around for years having beeen replaced by Red Hat Enterprise Linux (and CentOS) and Fedora.

A document that does not cover installing mediawiki and keeping SELInux enabled isn't going to get it installed as securely as it might be.

Documentation addressing RHEL 4,5 and the forthcoming 6 (and CentOS), plus Fedora 12 (11 will become unsupported shortly) and 13 (nearing release) would be useful

Wiki got spammed

Recently my wiki got spammed. I tried some google searches and couldn't find the exact problem. The problem is basically when someone searches my site on google, some of the result pages link to spam, but if you go to the actual page there is no spam. Searching "site:www.koreanwikiproject.com" on google gives a lot of "Buy cialis" links, and recently I edited a page, and the next page was spam, clicked reload and made it go away (this only happened once for some reason). Possibly someone hacked your site, inserted some php code into mediawiki files that triggers randomly (hard to know for sure if thats the issue without looking at the code). (if you have wordpress installed, might have something to do with that as the generator on the spam version of the page is set to wordpress). Should I go with a fresh install? I'm worried it might leave the infected files intact, but also not really sure how i would get it back to my old wiki. I guess copy the uploaded files folder, skins, and reinstall my extensions. You think that will do? Did a fresh install so we'll see how that goes. Found the source of the evil, it was in the index php file at the bottom, a bunch of compressed text that apparently contains arrays of other junk. Probably the same way it happened the first time. Check your web server access logs to see what happened. Quite possibly they are attacking some other php script you happen to have installed that is insecure. fix whatever hole allowed the bad people to hack you in the first place (if you can't find one, making sure your webserver and other software is up to date is a good first step). Import dump and templates problem

I imported a wiktionary dump with mwdumper and templates are broken. I am trying to create a mirror of different wiktionary sites and I am encountering trouble with imported templates. After a fresh install of the necessary components on mac osx (please see below for mediawiki versions and extension info), I am using mwdumper and the swedish wiktionary dump to import the swedish wiktionary db info. The import runs fine. However, when I look at the pages, all the templates are not transcluding. What I am seeing is something like Template:some template, where I should be seeing the transcluded template data.Clicking on the template itself redirects to a page edit page where it is possible to enter in some template data, and when I go back to the original page which has the template and "preview" it on the edit page, the template works. Therefore, it doesn't seem that this is a parser issue... it seems more like problem with the import itself.Furthermore, in looking at the rows in the "page" table of the db, I noticed that all the template entries have a namespace of 14... that seems odd because the template namespace is 10.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I would really appreciate any information on how to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance!

Infobox alternating colors

Wookieepedia's infobox templates alternate colors on the lines between white and light grey. Mine refuse to do that, even when I copy the template word for word. I also copied Common.css, Common.js, Monobook.css, Monobook.js, Functions.js, Upload.js completely over from Wookieepedia, and I installed every single extension they have. Still my infoboxes refuses to alternate colors. In fact I don't think any of the java is working. I distinctly remember having this same problem about a year and a half ago with another Wiki and I managed to fix it somehow.. but I don't remember. Hello. I am trying to create a URL that can open the edit box, autofill the box with a snippet of code, and save the page, all with one click. I remember seeing such URLs on userpages on Wikipedia, but can't seem to find them again to get the code from them. We already have something similar with our vandal reporting template, which uses variables(?) in the URL to set block expiry and other settings on the Special:Block page. Essentially, what I'm looking to do is take step 2 in this template and modify it to provide a URL that would be something like http://starwars.wikia.com/index.php?title=Wookieepedia:Featured_article_nominations&action=edit&section=new&text={{Wookieepedia:Featured article nominations/{{{1|{{PAGENAME}}}}}}}&save=yes. This would simplify that step of the nomination process slightly, but I'm not sure how to code the last two parts. [RESOLVED] Log in error after installing MediaWiki.

After successful installation of MediaWiki, I try to log in with the account information which was entered on the same page as the database information. I enter the username and password then it gives me the error:

Login error There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking. Please hit "back" and reload the page you came from, then try again.

I can create a new user and it does the same thing.

No, in LocalSettings.php you add:

$wgDefaultSkin = "vector";

Two questions. 1. I've installed 1.16.0beta3.tar.gz but it doesn't have the same looks as wikipedia.org (it looks less nice) why is this? 2. My wiki doesn't seem to support single carriage returns, whereas all other wiki's do?

Wikipedia's new skin, Vector, is not enabled by default in 1.16, see $wgDefaultSkin.

I have set my wiki so you have to be logged in, and visitors cannot create accounts; I want it to be private and only open to people I add.

I have looked far and wide to find how I can create user accounts manually, ie what do I do if I want to give access to a friend?

I would have guessed that an Administrator (sysop) can create new user accounts, but I have not found how anywhere ...

Some users think my mediawiki site is emitting a trojan threat.

Users with strict intrusion protection running on their machines get an error about a Trojan coming from my mediawiki site. I can't reproduce it, even with Google Chrome, but I was in a canadian fedgov office where I witnessed it. I figured I had been hacked, so I ran up a fresh copy of the software, replaced the config files so it would look like my site and ran from there yet the trojan is still present according to certain visitors.

Hmmm. Is it possible that my version of mediawiki is behaving as if a trojan is present like some emails look like span to some spam filters? I've (again) compared the distribution code to the code that's running my site and it's the same. How can this be?

Transclusion and text replacement made by extensions

I'm using transclusion for a kind of 'today's featured article' in our wiki. So every day, I copy the content of a page to another named 'today_featured_article/June 29th,2010'. It works very well.

My problem is when the content is displayed on the main page, some text replacements injected by a hook are not done. I have in one of my extensions a 'ParserBeforeStrip' hook which replace ids of pages by their title. When the page is transcluded, this replacement is not done. Of course, if I display the page by its url (I mean for example http://mywiki.com/index.php/today_featured_article/June 29th,2010, everything works)

Why amy parser hooks are not called during transclusion ?

What can I do ?

Is it possible to get the last date that a page was accessed for a whole bunch of pages in a specified category?

Sir I am an sysop in hindi wiki, there are some tools that is not installed in hindi wiki.We have a requirement of abuse filter and to have priveledge(right) to a sysop to add some user group like roll backers, reveiwers , confirmed user. In absense of these we will have to grant admin status for user which are good in these area.please enable this for admin like english wiki.you can check english wiki user right table and hindi wiki user right table, here in hindi wiki admin has no right to add new user group like Rollbackers, Account creators, Edit filter managers, Autopatrolled, Confirmed users, Reviewers except ip block exemptions. api.php does not expand DPL content

I'm accessing page content content through the API, some of which contains DPL. Unfortunately, while the api will happily expand an ordinary template, the API returns an empty/blank page if any DPL is in the page (either directly or through a template). I am raising this here because I'm not sure if this is an API.php issue or a DPL issue. Can you give me advice on the proper place to raise this as a defect?

If its only happening with dpl's, seems most likely to be a dpl issue. The proper place would be bugzilla (product Mediawiki extensions, component DynamicPageList2), however first you should follow the instructions at Debugging to get the actual error message (blank page usually indicates fatal php error). 24.65.69.94 05:22, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jeez, this place is a forbidding maze!! Is there a way to change {{#tag:ref|content here|group=notes}} into a named ref? I tried {{#tag:ref name="ThisName"|content here|group=notes}}, but it didn't work... I'm working on en:User:Ling.Nut/Sandbox, and have both "Notes" and "Footnotes"; the "Notes" contain longer passages of text. How do if find the autoconfirmed group?

I wanted to use this:

As the Version I use is 1.12 there schould be the possibility to give my users the autoconfirmed right. But in "User rights management" I found only the following groups: Bots, Sysops, Bureaucrats - where do I find the "autoconfirmed" group?

And - is this the solution to my problem? I want that everybody is allowed to write in his own (User:Example and User:Example/xxx) namespace, but only user I confirmed are allowed to write in the projekt namespace. I'm a little hesitant about posting and I will admit to not having read everything, but I did read the handbook and all the different ways to prevent edits/user access, but....

I have a general question.

I'm thinking of setting up a highly technical Wiki where I would need to moderate all the uploaded content (eventually probably get help in this regard). But I would not want anybody to be able to just edit the pages.

I would want them to be able to submit comments to me or other admins why they disagree with the uploaded content or proposed changes/additions, but these would not be public.

In other words, everything would have to be filtered, so once it's approved, it stays up unless a serious bug is found or a way to improve it is posted and approved by admins.

Is this feasible with your software?

How do I go about setting this up?

I will try to tinker and experiment with the software and I do apologize if this is a common newcomer question.

Apache HTTP Server Crashes When Trying To Access Preferences

Section Links

Hello, I have mediawiki v1.15.4.

Ok while i was playing with my wiki during setup i noticed that when editing an article with headings if i specified the section number as 0 i could edit all the text before the first heading, maybe this is a bug but i would like to take advantage of it. i would like to place a link to the far right like the other section edit links that will edit section 0 what file should i edit. i looked through OutputPage.php and ParserOutput.php but i don't know where those links are being made Thanks for you suggestions

upgrade from MediaWiki 1.6.8 to MediaWiki 1.13.4

When I upgraded from MediaWiki 1.6.8 to MediaWiki 1.13.4 I noticed that the number of records in the 'page' table reduced from 10201 (in wiki 1.6.8) to 8723 (in wiki 1.13.4) - I know this is an estimated count for Innodb engine but I looked at the data and noticed that id's from 2-934 had disappeared.

Would this be the expected behaviour for an upgrade from vers. 1.6.8 to 1.13.4?

Font size suddenly increased - inline styles?

Our wiki's font has all of a sudden become too large. (Yes, I checked my browser settings first. It's happening on everyone's computer. ;) Due to my company's policy and firewall, I don't have access to Firefox on my machine, only IE 7, so I saved one of the pages as a flat HTML file and then opened it on a standalone machine using Firefox. The computed CSS for font size is now 16px, but I'm unable to find exactly WHERE that's being declared.

The only clue I can find is a table class that doesn't exist anywhere in our stylesheets and the name seems to appear to be generated as an inline style. (It says table class="diptable collapsible" - but there's no diptable in any of the stylesheets.) There are also some tables whose CSS seems to be messed up by inline styles, as they're not lining up properly as they were before -- almost as if the width was changed.

The only change I've made recently (and I undid the changes after the site started acting wonky) was a change in the UserLogin.php template -- I added another table row in with text that could be edited in Special:AllMessages. However, I undid all the changes once the site started acting weird, but it's still showing the bloated font size/messed up layout.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Sir, it is simple : After I loaded a Package from "PostgreSQL", I had the Chance to find "MediaWiki" for a Download. I already loaded it thru anoter way, but, "unzipped", it just gave a long list of "Modules in PHP" and similar, but no "Setup" or "Installer.exe" ! But now, I have in "PostgreSQL Add-on" a "Working MediaWiki". Unfortunately, when I "Click" on it, it gives only : << PHP 5.2.13 installed Could not find a suitable database driver!

	For PostgreSQL, compile PHP using --with-pgsql, or install the pgsql.so module>>

Where in the Hell could I find this "pgsql.so module", and How I can Install it conveniently in my computer ? Printing a wiki page without showing the URLs behind the links

Embedding special page Special:WhatLinksHere works when using the solution on m:Help:Embed_page#Embedded_Special_Pages (i.e. changing an array at includes/SpecialPage.php). So it can embedded using {{Special:WhatLinksHere/Pagename}}.

What I am looking for is if there is any possibility to add a parameter for a certain namespace (something like {{Special:WhatLinksHere/Pagename|namespace=X}}), maybe by using a programmed template or something else. I have got solutions which

change standard parameters in includes/specials/SpecialWhatlinkshere.php (this is site-wide; results in disability for giving links from ALL namespaces),
give just a pre-defined link instead of embedding (user has to click on the link),
embed an iframe with a pre-defined link (user gets a whole wiki page in the iframe including links, which results maybe in further reading and editing in the iframe),

signup issue after upgrading to 1.15.4

i have installed the mediawiki 1.5.6 and its working fine. Noe we have to upgrade the mediawiki to the latest 1.15.4 and its shifted to 64 bit (centOS) operating system. The upgrading procedure is done as per the Upgrading procedure. Now there is two issues :

1. can't to create a new user account. we are enter the user details and click the submit button, then a blank winodow is dislayed.At that time there is no error reported in the error.log file. 2. cant open the mass email extension. open this extension in special pages then an internal error displayed. error details are as follows:

Have you run maintenance/update.php to update yout data model?
Are all the configured extensions in a version that are supported by the installed version of MediaWiki? I.e. try disabling all extensions and enabling them one by one.

I can't ask them because they ignore support questions from IP's and I can't create an account because my IP has been blocked because of someone else's stupidity. Wiki farm and Simlinks

I try to install a wiki farm with Method 4: Multiple wikis sharing common resources. I still worked as described but after I changed the described folders to simlinks, I receive follwoing error:

You need to change open_basedir. If you can't do that, you need to work within the directory restrictions open_basedir imposes, which may mean you can't use symlinks here. —Emufarmers^(T|C) 05:41, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleteuser hasn't been updated in four years it seems, so it's way out of date. It's also not a good way of deleting user accounts. It is recommended that you use Extension:User Merge and Delete instead.

Doubling of Content-Length in HTTP header

I am trying to track down a bug in the api which is causing a double content-length in the header. This is causing a lot of issues with a python bot. Here is the report from web-sniffer showing the content of the api.php call from this wiki. All other pages when called, i.e. the Main page, etc. only report 1 content-length. Is the api forcing the headers? Why is doubling only the one?

MediaWiki my custom skin disappeared after upgrade to 1.20

PHP 5.3.8 (cgi-fcgi)

Server: IIS

Upgraded from 1.15 to 1.20.2
Copied existing skins folder to the new folder.
My customized skin disappeared...looks like monobook replaced it.
Clicking preferences link gets 500 error.
$wgDefaultSkin is correct in localSettings (the name is claysterweb, that is the name of a folder within the Skins folder).
The ClaysterWeb.php file is within the Skins/claysterweb folder.
Placed requirement in localSettings: require_once( "$IP/skins/claysterweb/ClaysterWeb.php");
Tried copying he ClaysterWeb.php file to the Skins folder. This broke login.

Can anyone advise me? Thank you very much.
