Wikimedia Hackathon 2022/Schedule/Helper Roles
We are looking for people to help us run an awesome and smooth event! If you're interested, here are a few steps to follow:
- Have a look at the different roles described below, see if there's anything interesting for you.
- If you're interested, you can add your name in the schedule below.
- Join the Helpers Telegram Group to coordinate with other helpers.

wikimedia.org or reach out to @mseckington on Telegram. - We'll also have a Helper Roles Q&A sessions on Wednesday 18th May at 16:00 UTC (see in your time zone). Email mseckingtonwikimedia.org to get added to the invite.
Helper roles[edit]
With each of these roles, you might get asked questions that you don't know the answer to or might need to trouble shoot technical issues. If you need help, you can ask questions in the Helpers Telegram Group. Or you can send people directly to the Helper Desk in the virtual space (bottom left of the map).
Room facilitators[edit]
In this role, you'll be helping out with facilitating a specific room. Role tasks include:
- Help trouble shoot any technical issues
- Help coordinate the Q&A (if there is one) and keep track of who wants to ask a question
- Help with time tracking and making sure sessions don't overrun
If you're interested in the room facilitator role, you can add your name to a specific room in the schedule below. Please make sure you arrive on time to your room!
Roaming facilitators[edit]
In this role, you'll roam around the virtual space to help people connect. For example, you can:
- Walk around the virtual space, introduce yourself to people and chat to people
- Help out newcomers in the Welcome Newcomers room and answer any questions they might have
- Ask questions to (new) people and help connect them to others with similar interests
- Talk about what you do and what Wikimedia projects and initiatives you contribute to
If you're interested in the roaming facilitator role, please add your name to the schedule below. Multiple people can take this role on at the same time.
Moderation/Help Desk table[edit]
This role will be located at the Help Desk in the virtual space (bottom left of the map). Role tasks include:
- Answer any questions people might have about using the software
- Triage support if people have issues
- Monitor shared email address
- Help with any moderation issues
