BiblioTex[edit]

Hello Cavila, thank you for contacting me (6 months ago!). I am still working on BiblioTex but only in bursts, mostly depending on my own needs. Will let you know when/if I have any news. – Miranche T C 00:50, 4 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I looked into Semantic MediaWiki but the older extensions Biblio and BibTeX were adequate for my needs, so I put some work into making them interoperable... which soon became its own project. Thanks for putting together the reference page on bibliography extensions. – Miranche T C

Just to say thank you for the edits of my projects, all support is greatly appreciated - you may have noticed I'm not too hot on writing extension pages so any help is greatly received :) SwiftSys (talk) 10:29, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Really that's too much praise for only a handful of minor edits, but thanks anyway : ) Cavila (MW 1.22, MySQL 5.5.37-0, Php 5.4.4-14 squeeze, SMW 1.9.2, SF 2.7) 10:52, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bootstrap extension[edit]

Hi Cavila,

A couple of words on your comment of the BootStrap extension. Just to say I am a very reasonable person, and had this person not resorted to using upsetting comments about me personally and my about the quality of my work (see the final comment, which I suspect was written by an alias), and rather approached me respectfully though my talk page I would have gladly removed the extension completely as it has been superceded by my skin and I was considering its removal from Mediawiki.

Collegial conduct works both ways, in my opinion harrassment of a colleage is far worse than a problem over a naming convention, for one I am relitively new to Mediawiki, and I think made amazing progress since my first project, so where is the spitit of supporting new developers? My principle specialities are css, php and Bootstrap, I'm somewhat lacking in creating naming convections and writing extension pages, but will take greater care in future, the last thing I want is to upset fellow coleages, especially if it spills over into childish arguements, at 48 years of age I simply want to peacefull enjoy developement of my projects.

I also tried, in the spirit of good community ethics, to approach the indivial personally, offering an appology for a mistake I wasn't even aware of, "AND" offered to remove the extension! Even though the rude comment had already been posted, but once more I receive a barrage of abuse about my professional experience, which given I've been involved in the industry for around 20 years is utter rubbish. My work reguarly receives praise and commendation, accross all of the formats I write for and I make a considerable side income from clients that come to me through recommendations, simple because I write high quality code.

I found these comments very distressing.

Given all of the above, any hope of deleting the extension or remnaming it wont be happening now, unless there is a public appology and retraction of the comments on that page. If that happens then I will then remove the extension completely, though I will add a link to the skin pointing to the extension at my website.

Finally just to say, professionally I'm a Social Worker, a good percentage of my work involves dispute resolution and so I am quite skilled at it, especially when I speak to Government officials and health and benefit organisations, but when attempts at resolution are thrown back in my face, I simple dig my heals in and refuse to budge untill the other party is willing to talk reasonable and with respect, which all things condsidered is what most well adjusted people would have done in the first place.

Frankly the comments speak volumes about the ethics of this person, who obviously has "sour grapes", mine is stable and has been downloaded over 200 times in just over a month, where as the other is a beta with problems. Incidentally I was contacted by a client who read those comments too and he repied that "Let them comment on your products as they're showing themselves in a very poor light, there is also no doubt about the quality of your work, which is excellent, so don't let it bother you." And this was from a commercial customer who pays for my support and guidance.

Sorry if that isnt how you would deal with it, but I strongly refuse to make any changes under threat, or through personal slander or comments about the quality of my work.

The offer to delete still remains, but not without an appolgy or retraction of the comment.

Best wishes, Lee

Are you positive though that Fereal is an alias of the developer F.trott? The latter, who has always seemed to me like an open, reasonable guy, made a reasonable question/suggestion in early June, while Fereal, in his recent comments, agitated rather strongly (should I say 'ferally') especially against what he saw was an excessive use of CSS. I may have missed something here, but at this point I see no reason to jump to the conclusion that they are one and the same. If you're focusing your energies on the skin, there is little value in continuing the discussion about the merits of the extension, but I would hate to see bad blood between two competent, prolific devs simply because of a case of mistaken identity. You're right, I will write to F.trott with a brief explanation and offer to remove the extension.

Many thanks Cavilla

Starting conversion of LiquidThreads to Flow at mediawiki.org[edit]

Hello. I'm sending this to you, because you've been one of the top 50 users of LQT on mediawiki.org over the last 360 days,[1] and I wanted to make sure that you'd seen the announcement at Starting conversion of LiquidThreads to Flow at mediawiki.org. There are links in the topic-summary at the top, for other discussions (wikitech-l and Project:Current_issues), and a link to the planned process and timeline (scheduled to begin April 6, with smaller conversions at first). Please do test Flow out at Talk:Sandbox if you haven't tried it recently, and give any feedback/suggestions/requests at that main discussion location. Much thanks, Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 23:51, 27 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Extension:Semantic Cite[edit]

Hi Cavila, I saw that you keep a list of reference extensions on your user page. I just created the page on Semantic Cite which might be of interest to you. Probably you already know about this on being in the pipeline ... Cheers --[[kgh]] (talk) 08:59, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I wasn't really maintaining that list any more and except for Semantic Cite, I haven't spotted any new development that seemed to me worth including or reporting - unless it's a change of status to 'defunct' or 'no longer maintained' (MediaWiki can be such a dead scene). MWJames's new creation definitely sounds like a promising extension - I was aware of it and actually tried it out, although it didn't work for me at that stage. That must have been a couple of months ago, so I should probably give it another try soon. Cavila 10:31, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Good that you know. Quite frankly it would have surprised me if you were not aware.Yeah, it will be great if you could do testing on this. Cheers --[[kgh]] (talk) 14:33, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Share your experience and feedback as a Wikimedian in this global survey[edit]

Your feedback matters: Final reminder to take the global Wikimedia survey[edit]

(Sorry to write in Engilsh)

Give us your feedback about some new features for the Flow:Extension[edit]

Hi Cavila,

Since you discussed about the Flow:Extension, I imagine you are using the Flow extension on your wiki.

To us, Flow discussion boards are very powerful. However, they can only be used on the discussion page of a specific page. This doesn't encourage collaboration because users usually visit the pages they watch and some discussions remains unanswered for days...

We believe a special page that gather all the discussions of the wiki will improve collaboration between users.

In the meantime, discussions boards are displayed in a separate tab. This can be confusing to newcomers. If the discussion boards were transcluded under the wiki page itself, it'd look like what users are used to see on other sites (like comments on a blog).

As Mediawiki developers, our team have apply for this Grant to develop such features.

If you think this project should be selected for a Project Grant, please add your name and rationale for endorsing at the bottom of this page : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/ClemFlip/Wikifab/Various_types_of_transclusions_of_Flow_discussion_boards

Of course, other constructive feedback is welcome.

Thanks a lot for your help.
