Topic on Talk:Content translation

Content translation is pretty difficult. We'd need something like global templates or an option to translate / localize templates in order to localize articles. E.g. when I try to translate a page like Darkwing Duck from the English wikipedia to German (I know it's already there, but the current German page is pretty bad), it doesn't let me do it, because the templates for the table on the right can't be found in the German wikipedia. Please fix that in a future release :-)

Thanks for trying ContentTranslation. Global templates, is out of scope of Content Translation and we currently support templates, which are also available in target wiki. For example, infoboxes, you can easily translate within ContentTranslation editor.

HA! Good one xD

Please try translating for exampe this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felicia_Barton into German. You won't be able to translate the infobox, because the Germans simply don't want infoboxes about single artists as they "contain redundant information" *triple-facepalm*. I've spent the past 90 minutes with research on reasons why infoboxes about single artists were previously deleted (multiple times) and it turns out that even tho there were good points made regarding infoboxes, they decided to not include them in the German wikipedia. Looks like Germans think they're much smarter than 40+ other wikipedias...

IMHO, This isn't ContentTranslation issue and can be discuss in dewiki :)

Templates are not identical and most likely not compatible to other language project. The CXT allows to choose and fill other fields to make fill the translated template as good as possible. German templates are known to combine data and request unnecessary or redundant data. The English match the need of information much better.
