The translator is a great help. The links to other articles appear in the translated part, and there's also an easy way to add them. But I can't add links to sources, when I accidentally backspace over them. The automatic translation is surprisingly helpful (English to Esperanto). I'm having a good time translating an incredibly long article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodesia's_Unilateral_Declaration_of_Independence) except that I constantly see an error message that the article couldn't be saved. I'm using Firefox. I'm copy/pasting to my home computer and thinking about publishing in parts.

@Cindymckee Thanks for letting us know. We are currently investigating the causes for saving failures, which have been reported by other users as well. Very sorry for the trouble. You can track the progress on this ticket. I have added the error reported by you as well. Thanks.

FYI, it has always saved successfully for me. The constant error message says that it can't save, but it actually does.

Runab WMF (talkcontribs)

Oh that's interesting. If its not inconvenient, can you please give us a screenshot of the error? Thanks.

Cindymckee (talkcontribs)

Yes. I put the screenshot in my website https://cindymckee.com/Screenshot-Content-Translation-Error_2015-11-08 15:55:57.png

The message in the screenshot saying "Eraro okazis dum konservado de la paĝo" means "Error happened while saving the page". I see it every few seconds.

@Cindymckee It seems that there is no event logs about you which would tell me what is the cause of the draft saving error (maybe these issues are related). Do you think you would be able to get the details for me? Assuming you are using firefox, you need to use the developer tools, first open the network inspector, then make a change to your draft, wait for the error text in the screenshot to appear and then inspect the request to api.php and see what is the response. Please avoid showing headers or cookies in public as those might contain private information.

It might be that there is no response at all and the request fails or is blocked, indicated by code other than 200. There might be also information related to this in the developer console which is another tab in the tools.

Cindymckee (talkcontribs)

@Nikerabbit OK, here's the entire screenshot at https://cindymckee.com/Screenshot%20from%202015-11-11%2012:10:51.png There's no private information in it. At the bottom right, the text reads "231 requests". Tomorrow I'll use Chrome, in English.

Oh, and here is a shot from the developer console: https://cindymckee.com/Screenshot%20from%202015-11-11%2012:34:19.png

Hey, edited much later: I had absolutely no problem translating and publishing a short article. I never saw the error message. Did I mention that the article I'm working on is over 70 paragraphs long?

(And I finally realized how to publish to my user namespace; by User:username/title. (Actually, 'User' has to be the Esperanto word 'Uzanto' for the Esperanto wikispace, I guess. Hurrah! That makes a good draft.)

Nikerabbit (talkcontribs)

@Cindymckee Interesting. Could you also select one of those api.php requests which a) do not have "200" and b) Grando (received?) is 0 kilobytes and take a screenshots of the result tab if that is shown? Given they take only few milliseconds, it seems to be that something is blocking those connections. This could be caused by a firewall, a browser extension, or even servers on our side.

Cindymckee (talkcontribs)

Today I haven't received the 'error while saving' message! So there's nothing to show. Congrats!

However, when I start the same article anew and skip paragraphs, the left and right columns become misaligned. The automatic translator fills in text for the wrong paragraph. Apparently, you have to start from the beginning and go sequentially. https://cindymckee.com/Screenshot%20from%202015-11-14%2008:15:58-misaligned.png
