adding sardu & sicilianu to the short list of the corsican wikipedia
Hi, thank you for the short list feature. Is it possible to add sardu & sicilianu - which are endangered languages and close to Corsican language, to the short list ? Thanks in advance. ~~~~
Hi @Paulu, thank you for your note. The languages are generally dynamically added as you use them. However, there is a discussion currently going on to also take into account the preferred languages that a wiki may have defined and I believe your request has already been added to this ticket. If its not inconvenient, you can follow the discussion on the ticket but I will be most happy to help with any questions. Thanks.

Yandex translation in Content Translation System
I tried to translate an article from English to Ukranian. You had said there was machine translation for this language pair now. I didn't notice any, in fact the Content Translation system said there was no machine translation for the language pair. The official announcement says there is only Yandex machine translation for English to Russian. Can you point me to any other announcement that says differently.
The GoogleTrans gadget does effect translation under the markup via
1) Selecting paragraph in the middle column of the Content Translation system
2) Holding CTRL-ALT key down
I've used it to translate 75 frwiki articles to enwiki articles.
It uses both Google and Yandex translation machines.
Hi @Endo999, English to Ukranian is available through Yandex but not enabled on Content Translation. Its a configuration switch that needs to be done before users can see it on Content Translation. I had left a comment about it on the original discussion where a machine translation was requested for Yandex. Thanks.
If users ask for this configuration switch to be set on for them do you do that?
The language wise setting has to be done by us, yes. After that users can enable or disable their individual preference. Thanks.
I'd like to add that I use my GoogleTrans gadget to do frwiki to enwiki translations now. This does the machine translation under the markup for the fr to en translations that Apertium does not do right now.
I also find it useful at times to simply
1) hover cursor over french word in first column of Content Translation page
2) hold SHIFT key down and get english translation of word (or selected text)
Sometimes the machine translation really mangles the translation from fr to en and you actually have to consult the original french to get the real meaning. It is helpful then to use the hover cursor method here and to read the original French with the aid of the Gadget.
Whatever system you are actually coding up should have this facility when machine translation is in place.
Of course reading the original french is necessary to do the translation, but the machine translation often give bad English that can be turned into good English by the translator. This good English will then be a decent translation. However, as I said, there are definitely times when a close read of the original French is necessary to do the translation. In order to effect this a hover cursor over word, get translation is really helpful.
My GoogleTrans gadget was originally written to help people learn languages by reading Wikipedia pages, however, after some look at the use of the gadget, I decided that nobody was using it to learn a second language, however, wiki to wiki translators were using it extensively because sometimes they didn't know a word in the original language and wanted some help with it.
