How can you reuse an existing reference via VE? Adding a reference is easy but I cannot figure out how to add a <ref name> to it so it can be used in other locations of the article.

Switched to VE because for some reason the edit summary of wikiEd does not accept any input today and I'm impressed with many aspects of the editor. It seems to improve every time I try it.

Hey @Wolbo :) Assuming you mean "on the English Wikipedia", you can just click Cite, then choose the Re-use tab, and click on the ref you're interested into. No need to add ref names. Glad you're liking it! Let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with,

Oh, and forgot a cool thing: that dialog will remember which of the 3 tabs you used the last time, so re-using even more references is super-easy right now. HTH!

Thanks, that's very straightforward and easy (once you know where to look!). With the old wiki-editor my normal workflow ('edit source') is to go to the existing ref, select & copy the ref name and paste it into the new location which is why in VE I was looking for the ref name or reuse function in the edit function of the existing ref.

Copy/pasting also work. Click on the ref number in brackets, CTRL-C, go to new location, CTRL-V, save, voilà.

In terms of 'anything else' .... in the VE edit summary screen I was expecting the enter key to save the edit (and summary) and exit the summary screen but it appears to do nothing. In my view it is easier to hit enter than to click the save button with the mouse because A) that is the way it works in the old wiki editor and B) the editor is already using the keyboard to type the edit summary.

For this, you can see this task. Could be fixed if/when T52961 is implemented.

Hello

Yes, you can reuse an existing reference via VE. When you use the "cite" button, you have three tabs: automatic, manual and reuse. This third tab lists all references already used in the article.

Concerning the improvements, yes, VE has changed a lot! To give you an example, I'm currently finishing (with my volunteer account) to write an article on French Wikipedia. I've creating it only by using VE, and I was able to deal with all templates or setup requirements we have for Good Articles vote. :)
