Topic on Talk:Content translation

The tool has a great UI and works as expected. Although machine translation into Amharic is not currently possible, I'm requesting two features that in my opinion would be necessary for this tool to be truly useful on the Amharic wikipedia:

1) automatic translation of links: even if machine translation is not possible, it would be useful if there was an option to automatically convert all the links in a paragraph to the target language by leveraging wikidata.

2) "translation" of templates: another potential for this tool is in mapping templates across languages. That is, a user can define the relation between the fields of a template in the source language with fields of a template in the target language.

These two features would make the tool extremely valuable even on the language pairs that machine translation is not possible (a vast majority). Please let me know if and where I can open a bug for these requests.

@Elfalem: Thanks for using Content Translation! Your suggestions are useful and team will look into it and update here. We're working on Links and Templates right now, so stay tuned!

@Elfalem: It's currently possible to do the following: select text in Amharic, find the link that you want to add in the source article, and click it. The link will be added to the Amharic translation. There are several bugs in this feature now, and they are being fixed now - you'll see the change very soon.

@Amire80: Thank you for the update. Can the dev team consider having an option to translate the anchor text (i.e. the actual displayed text) to be the same as the target of the link. For example, if you have the sentence "Andrés Iniesta Luján is a [[Spain|Spanish]] professional [[Association football|footballer]]." in English, when you click to translate the paragraph, it would automatically be written as "Andrés Iniesta Luján is a [[እስፓንያ]] professional [[እግር ኳስ]]." Of course this may be strange for most users and shouldn't be on by default but it would have great value if you're translating articles with lists (e.g. football match line ups).

Furthermore, a related feature request would be maintaining a personal word list so that a user can define common translations for a language pair. This way, a lot of repetition could be avoided in translating the same word (in multiple places on the same page, or a related set of articles) without machine translation.

Yes, we are aware of both issues and these are good ideas. We may have them in the future, but I can't promise a date right now.
