Email[edit]

@MWang (WMF), could you share a link to the email you used for English editors? I'm curious to see it. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 17:17, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Sdkb: You can find the Spanish and English texts of that email in the appendix of the report. Also pinging @Ed Erhart (WMF) for awareness, he might be more equipped to answer questions than I am. Cheers, MWang (WMF) (talk) 17:41, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@MWang (WMF) @Ed Erhart (WMF), thanks! w:MediaWiki:Confirmemail body is the community-maintained page that generates the currently welcome email for en-WP. I've had my eye on improving it for a while, but it's currently very limited because it cannot contain any formatting whatsoever (even the text used over hyperlinks). If you're able to help improve the infrastructure to help make that possible, I'd be happy to propose changes to make it more like the treatment option and I think editors would likely be receptive. (Courtesy pinging @Xaosflux, who has worked in related areas.) {{u|Sdkb}}talk 18:48, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yay, always happy to see alignment like this. This idea sounds almost exactly like the idea I was pitching to Ed Erhart (WMF) a few months back.  :) If we can fit this work into our next (fiscal year) annual plan I would love to partner more with you, Sdkb, and other community members to gather community requirements and ideas! - KStoller-WMF (talk) 22:01, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Sdkb! Thanks for taking a look at these. Re-opening the welcome emails work has been slowed because of other WMF commitments, as you might be able to glean from the Growth team's expansive updates list. Folks in the cross-departmental working group that executed this pilot are pushing to put annual plan/planned work for the next fiscal year. I can update this conversation if/when that happens, but you should also feel free to keep pushing on this occasionally to ensure it stays on the WMF's radar. :-) Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 07:18, 1 February 2023 (UTC) (edit: I hadn't seen KStoller-WMF's comment when I wrote this, and it was posted with a long delay because there was a save error.)Reply
