仮アカウントが作成できなくなった件について
[edit]一度シャットダウンすると全ての変更がリセットされるPCを使用しているのですが、昨年12月頃から編集しようとすると「We are temporarily limiting logged-out editing from your location. Please create an account to edit, or try again later.」 ~2026-88929 (talk) 11:53, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
Are temporary accounts available in MediaWiki or only Wikimedia Foundation wikis?
[edit]If temporary accounts are available throughout MediaWiki, it should really be implemented in other wikis such as Fandom, Miraheze, Super Mario Wiki, Minecraft Wiki, etc.
I'm not talking about mediawiki.org (this site), I'm talking about MediaWiki in general. ~2026-48417-1 (talk) 18:14, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, temporary accounts are a normal MediaWiki feature. Anyone can enable it on their own wiki using $wgAutoCreateTempUser, if they're running a sufficiently recent version of MediaWiki (some moderation features like IP reveal are a part of the CheckUser extension). For reference, configuration used by Wikimedia Foundation wikis can be found here. Matma Rex (talk) 18:57, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
Blocking policy
[edit]If you select "3 months" in the dropdown for the block of a temporary account in Feburary, the temp account will be unblocked one day before it expires because feb march april is 89 days. ~2026-48673-9 (talk) 19:59, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-48673-9: On some wikis, administrators still default to indefinite blocks when blocking temporary accounts. In addition, a while ago, the Twinkle maintainer on the zhwiki developed a dedicated feature for blocking temporary accounts — blocking until the temporary account expires. This automatically determines the account’s expiration time and sets the block duration to end exactly when the temporary account expires.
- Also, I think a three-month block should already be sufficient. Temporary accounts aren’t blocked immediately upon creation; usually, they are only blocked after causing vandalism. This period should be long enough to cover the account until it expires. ShuQizhe (talk) 05:15, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
Legal analysis
[edit]We got stonewalled on asking "What law requires this?" since apparently it could have led to liability while we were still using IPs.
We're no longer using them, are we? So, now we need an answer to "What law actually required us to do this?" Seraphimblade (talk) 18:40, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
- The older edits (before the deployment of the temporary account) are still attributed to the IP address, and the legal risk still exists. So it seem to be not a good idea to answer this question. SCP-2000 (talk) 15:59, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Trust and Safety Product/Temporary Accounts/Updates/Legal#Background refers to the GDPR (and other privacy laws). Johannnes89 (talk) 23:32, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
When will temporary accounts be deployed on Russian Wikipedia?
[edit]On what date will temporary accounts be deployed on Russian Wikipedia? It is so close to finishing the deployment. ~2026-99452-3 (talk) 06:50, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
