Template parameters equivalents when translating and bug reporting

Hi! Even reading Content translation/Templates, I couldn't figure out where is stored the mapping between template parameters in various languages.

For instance, people reported that using the translation tool on Wikipedia from English to French, {{Cite web|first=Firstname |last=Lastname |title=… |url=…}} is converted into {{Lien web|prénom=Firstname |auteur=Lastname |titre=… |url=…}}. But the right conversion (so that the template displays both firstname and lastname) should be {{Lien web|prénom=Firstname |nom=Lastname |titre=… |url=…}}. The same thing occurs for numbered parameters first1/prénom1, last1/nom1 and so on.

Notice that author should be translated into auteur. Any idea to fix this issue when translating?

It's in the names and aliases of each parameter in the TemplateData of each template in the target language.

Thanks @Amire80 for the answer. On enwiki author and last are full aliases whereas on frwiki auteur and nom don't have the exact same behaviour and can be inserted simultaneously in the template. Moreover, in order to be displayed, the prénom requires the presence of a nom. A lonely auteur is an alternative that takes priority.

Is there a way to impose conversion "alias name" by "alias name", bypassing the common feature? Would it be useful to open a ticket on Phabricator? Hello @Pginer-WMF, any idea?

Another question: if one switches the order of parameters definitions in the TemplateData on frwiki, setting nom above auteur, will the translation tool fill nom instead of auteur?

Regards.

We need a tool for aligning templates between languages, to set which fields correspond to which fields in templates in various languages, otherwise automatic translation requires a lot of pointless manual labor in editing the citations, which should really be done by the content translation tool but isn't.
