I can't verify my Phabricator account

I can't verify my Phabricator account because I entered an incorrect email address. Please delete my account "Brahim-essaidi" so I can log in with my unified Wikimedia account.

Résumé par Alexwlchan

I was able to regain access to my Phabricator account!

Alexwlchan (discussioncontributions)

I’ve just tried to log in to Phabricator using my Wikimedia Commons account, and it wants me to verify an email address I don’t have:

You must verify your email address to log in. You should have a new email message with verification instructions in your inbox (mediawiki@alexwlchan.neta).

I think at some point in the past I must have typo'd the email address and not come back to it – how can I reset my email address so I can log in with a correctly spelled email address?

Alexwlchan (discussioncontributions)

(Also, as a note to myself: you want to log in to Phabricator to report a bug in Pywikibot. There are error messages about `user_config.py` which should be `user-config.py`.)

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

@Alexwlchan Hi, I've deleted your unused account. Feel free to re-register. Thanks!

Account deletion and username change

Valcio (discussioncontributions)

Hello. I just discovered that username change on Phabricator was possible. I created a new account with the new username (Valcio) and stalled the old one "ValeJappo".

Valcio is linked to my new developer account (valcio) and ValeJappo to the old one (valejappo).

I would need to:

  1. Delete "Valcio" (it has currently no actions/edit/anything)
  2. Rename "ValeJappo" to "valcio" (*lowecase*, please)
  3. (i can do it manually if you can not) Link "ValeJappo", now renamed to "valcio" to the new developer account

Thank you!

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

@Valcio Hi, I won't be able to change linked developer accounts. After deleting "Valcio" (not sure why it was created?), you could use your Developer account "ValeJappo" to log into the Phabricator account, link your MediaWiki SUL account on https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/external/ , log out of Phabricator, log into Phabricator via the MediaWiki SUL acount instead of the Developer account user, and go to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/external/ to replace the Developer account user. Assuming you still have access to your Developer account "ValeJappo".

@Valcio For verification, I see in the Phab DB that the Description blurb of https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/p/ValeJappo/ at some point said "**This account is no longer active. It has been moved to @Valcio**".

Renaming done. Feel free to also connect your MediaWiki SUL account to your new old Phab account - thanks!

Hi! Would it be possible to please re-activate my staff Phabricator account, AndyRussG (linked to this, my staff Mediawiki accout)? I can confirm via Slack/e-mail/whatever channel works best. Thanks so much in advance!

AGreen (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

Thanks so much! I see the account is re-enabled and have received e-mail from it. However, to log in, it's asking me for two 2FA codes. One of them (the second one on the screen, associated with phabricator.wikimedia.org on my app) works, but the other doesn't seem to work with any authenticator accounts I have set up. Thanks again :)

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

@AGreen (WMF) Indeed, database shows that your account has two such auth factors. Would be best to have a quick video call to verify this, or second-best an out-of-bound message (e.g. on Wikimedia's internal "Slack" network) before I can strip them (they both have the same default name so I unfortuantely cannot find out which one works for you).

AGreen (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

Works great now, hugely appreciated!

request to reset MPhamWMF phabricator MFA

MPham (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

I need to reset my phab MFA for username MPhamWMF

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

@MPham (WMF) Hi, we will need some out-of-band verification here. That's ideally a video call (but I do not know how you look so I'm out of luck, maybe another Phab admin does), or less ideally a confirmation message in that internal "Slack" chat system that WMF seems to use.

MPham (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

I sent you a message on slack

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

Thanks! I've reset your 2FA. (If you have access to restricted tasks, please set it up again.)

When trying to access the Herald subpage, it displays an error: Access Denied: Restricted Application You do not have permission to view this object. Users with the "Can View" capability: This object has a custom policy controlling who can take this action.

What does it means and why am I somewhat restricted? What are the requirements?

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

Hi, the application is restricted (not you) due to past vandalism when anyone could use it. If you think that you have a need to set up automated filter rules via Herald, please elaborate. Thanks a lot! See also Phabricator/Help/Herald Rules for more info.

Problem solved.

Demonocrazy (discussioncontributions)

Hello.

I can't log in because of an error with the email. When I linked the Wikimedia account and linked it to the email, I entered a wrong email, and now I'm in a closed-loop where I can't log in.

I have seen on the help page the following message:

"If you can't verify your Phabricator account because you entered an incorrect email address, please add a note on Talk:Phabricator/Help."

And that is why I am writing here. Can someone help me?

Thank you very much.

AKlapper (WMF) (discussioncontributions)

@Demonocrazy Hi, account deleted. Feel free to re-register.

Thank you very much! I have now been able to re-register. Best regards!
