Una pàgina protegida és una pàgina on als usuaris normals se'ls impedeix qualsevol mena d'edició i/o moviment. Només un usuari amb permisos d'administrador pot editar o moure una pàgina protegida. De la mateixa manera només els usuaris sysop poden protegir o desprotegir una pàgina.
Each activity of protecting or unprotecting a page is saved in its revision history.
Hi ha diverses raons per què una pàgina en particular pugui ser protegida:
- En wikis públics, les pàgines poden ser protegides perquè repetidament han estat víctimes de vandalisme o s'han reanomenat malament, o quan es creu que el vandalisme o el reanomenament podrien tenir una repercussió molt important.
- En els wikis corporatius, les pàgines es poden protegir quan contenen declaracions que han estat aprovades per la direcció, i la política dicta que aquestes declaracions no es poden canviar sense seguir un determinat procés d'aprovació.
Types of protections
Two types of protection levels exist on MediaWiki by default.
- Semi protected - This option prevents non-registered users from editing the page. It is best used to curb vandalism. On a page's protection settings, this option is specified as "Permetre només usuaris autoconfirmats".
- Fully protected - This option reserves editing rights to only administrators. It is used to stop edit wars, for legal reasons, curb large-scale disruptions, etc. On a page's protection settings, this option is specified as "Permetre només administradors".
Wikis can define additional protection levels using the $wgRestrictionLevels configuration setting.

How to protect a page
Click on the "Eines" drop-down menu, and select "Protegeix". You will be asked to choose the type of protection and also to add a reason for the protection. For the type of protection, choose either "Permetre només usuaris autoconfirmats" or "Permetre només administradors".
How to unprotect a page
Click on the "Eines" drop-down menu, and select "Desprotegeix". You will be asked to choose the type of protection and also to add a reason for the protection. For the type of protection, choose "Permet tots els usuaris".
