Translation limits on Slovak->Czech translations

Hey,

I've just tried to get a page in Slovak translated to Czech. The two languages are very (and by this I mean very) similar, which means that the machine translation is bang on in 99% of cases.

I really don't want to rewrite the content just for the sake of rewriting it, as I think it's in a good state as it already is, is there a way around this?

I'm facing a similar problem with translation but apparently there's no one to help. I also opened a ticket a few days ago but got no reply. We volunteer our time but nobody seems to care.

Hello Mila.Navarro and 95.82.160.110,

In a case where the automatic translation in the Wikipedia you are translating to has improved, making the current machine translation limit very strict. You can discuss adjusting the limit with the Wikipedia community in the village pump.

In deciding how strict the automatic translation should be, your community should consider different samples of the automatic translation as case studies and agree on a suitable threshold based on its accuracy and the extent to which translators edit the machine translation.

Once there is a consensus on the percentage of adjustment (e.g. 99% automatic translation and 1% adjustment), you can create a phabricator ticket like this one so that the WMF Language team can adjust the machine translation limit. I will also add that the Wikipedia Czech community in the past agreed to make the machine translation stricter. You can read more about their request here.

I hope this information helps. Thank you!

Don't know if I should tell you, but I found a simple trick to get around this. Just search and replace a common often used word (like a grammatical article or some punctuation) into something random. Publish it with these changes, then search and replace back with the original word.

I'll try that, thank you.
