Hello,

Please change my phabricator username from PMenon-WMF to "theprotonade".

Thanks!

Hi, the disabled Phab account PMenon-WMF is linked to globally locked a SUL wiki account. We usually do not change Phabricator usernames of disabled accounts.

(Furthermore, this request cannot be verified as there is no way to verify that you own(ed) the account PMenon-WMF?)

Ah! I was working as a contractor until December 2023, that's why it is disabled/locked now. So, now if I do set up a phab account using my personal ID, then there is no way to link phab histories?

@AKlapper (WMF): Is there any way that I could vouch for Parthiv's identity in some way, so he could get his account unlocked and renamed? It seems it's not that uncommon for staff to only have single Phab and developer accounts.

AKlapper (WMF) (talkcontribs)

@SWilson (WMF): In my understanding there are staff accounts and there are personal accounts: https://office.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_account_policy.

Mixing them makes contributor affiliation statistics incorrect, makes offboarding more error-prone, and creates wrong expectations (the former staff member won't be able to reply on-wiki anymore as ITS disabled the staff account but somehow they still reply on Phabricator?).

@AKlapper (WMF): That policy is all about wiki accounts, and doesn't mention Phabricator or developer accounts. I guess it makes sense to keep everything separate, but there does seem to be some inconsistency (which, at least as far as developer accounts go, is seemingly intentional; it's the same with GitHub, for instance, where the normal thing is to only have one account).

AKlapper (WMF) (talkcontribs)

@SWilson (WMF) Indeed. I consider that problematic for various reasons (and I'd say that GitHub is a third-party system while WMF needs to care about the integrity of the systems that WMF hosts). I'd appreciate if the policy was extended not to cover wiki accounts only.

Thanks for the clarification @AKlapper (WMF). In the process of setting up my volunteer account, I accidentally entered the email address as parthivmenon.dev@gmail..com instead of parthivmenon.dev@gmail.com. Also, I believe this email is linked to my globally locked account as well. Is there a way to resolve these issues? Sorry to trouble you with this again!

@TheProtonade Hi, np! I've deleted the unused Phab account so in theory you could re-register. But indeed, the WMF Phab account has that email address attached. Given that your personal email address is username.dev@gmail, easiest workaround would be registering in Phab with the email address username.dev+phab@gmail or such (note the +phab suffix).

That worked. Thanks!
