I am forwarding here after consulting with the product manager

Dear Mr. Aharoni,

I am the administrator of the Czech Wikipedia and I am addressing you, because you are the product manager of the Content Translate gadget. Although I recognize many advantages of this gadget, it also brings certain problems to the Czech Wikipedia.

I saw that you are from Russia, so you will know that the Slavic languages are among the most complex in terms of their linguistic composition (and the Czech language is even more complicated than Russian)... Unfortunately, newcomers to the Czech Wikipedia using the gadget often import machine translations that have the wrong style. In addition, the gadget is purposefully imposed on newcomers from the first edits, see my test ctrlv.cz/fxuy . I do not consider such promotion of translations to be appropriate (and moreover, it leads to superficiality)

I initiated two discussions about this and the community generally agreed to limit the gadget for newcomers:

* Wikipedie:Pod_lípou/Archiv_2022/03#ContentTranslate

* Wikipedie:Pod_lípou/Archiv_2022/03#Překlad_úvodu

I think it's a good compromise to enable the gadget after, say, one month on Wikipedia or for Extended confirmed users. At the same time, I would like it if pop-up windows with Content Translate offers were turned off by default (or at least less aggressive).

Thank you.

Best, ~~~~

I believe filing a request similar to phab:T299636 would be the quickest way to do this.

@OJJ-san: I'm from Jawiki and we had the same problem. We sincerely offered to abolish CX2's machine translation system (not the CX2 itself) based on beforehand discussions at local but the CX2 team rejected it. I gave up (see Topic:X5np6qyldklnm166). I don't intend to interfere with the local problem but FYI, the local edit filter may be able to regulate posting articles or edits. I will try that in Jawiki. It is another avail way to consult with the Editfilter editors.
