Can someone provide a link or provide simple instructions on how, having created a new page, to set said page so that the public can view it. I have searched the wiki help and am getting all kinds of code to type for database editing and such. Surely it must be simpler than that.

The public can view pages by default.
I created a page. Which I can view. But when I view it in a private window, I get the message: "You do not have permission to view this page". This is what the public would see. So perhaps I am doing something wrong?
it depends on how the wiki you are using is configured. It can be configured so everything is private with no exceptions. We can't really say anything without knowing how the wiki in question was setup.
