Too sensitive to page syntax

Running this on a 50k page wiki, I keep find it falling over with python errors when it should either cope or ignore the syntax. It does not seem to like

The Hobbit [Jonathan Cape, 1960]] the main page [[WSFS and someone has forgotten the trailing square brackets in the discussion ([

I'd be happy if it flagged or ignored the problem, but a python crash with traceback is annoying.

It also stalls on big pages like http://fancyclopedia.org/Convention_timeline
