Please, do not delete articles created with my partial translations

@Ksarasola

Hello, I am a regular user of Content Translation. I really like the tool. I have generated more than 90 articles with Content Translation. But I'm having a problem lately. I'm going to explain it and suggest a possible solution.

Yesterday two of the articles I had created in Basque Wikipedia using Content Translation have been deleted without any prior notice. The reason given is that a year has passed since I started the translation, that I haven't finished the translation and that as the original article has been modified I have to start the translation process from the beginning.

I would like you not to delete the articles generated with my translations. In many cases I don't use Content Translation to fully translate the article. Not all the sections and information that appear in the original article have to appear obligatorily in the translated article. When I have generated the version of the article in the final language it is because I have already selected the subset of the original article that I want to be in the translated article. Subsequently I have always had to do considerable extra work to correct and complete, already in the translated Wikipedia article, a coherent and complete version (even if it does not contain all the information of the original article). From that moment I finish the translation process with Content Translation.

But no, as has happened this week with the articles "Lesaca" and "Mary Kenneth Keller", after one year without completing the 100% translation with Content Translation, the translated article has been completely removed and without notice. The result is that reduced but coherent articles have been eliminated, and that I have lost the not inconsiderable work I did a year ago on the translated article to correct, complete and get a coherent version.

I'd like to make two requests: (1) please close all translations I have in Content Translation, but please do not delete the translated articles. All of them have been very valuable to obtain a reduced but coherent and complete first version of the translated article; and once this is done I will never continue to complete the translation with Content Translation. (2) please, add a button on the interface to finish the translation process with Content Translation once I have decided to generate the new article and continue modifying and completing it directly in the translated Wikipedia article.

Thanks

Hola,

Gracias

You can contact sysops on your wiki to request a copy of deleted pages.

Thanks for the feedback, @Ksarasola.

I think both requests are already supported by the tool:

Regarding (1), Content translation does not delete the articles you publish with the tool. When you start a translation you are working on a translation draft, which will be discarded automatically after one year of inactivity, but once you publish a regular wikipedia page is created. The notifications are about the translation drafts and not the published pages. Published pages are reviewed, edited, moved, and deleted by other editors.

Regarding (2), translation drafts appear in the "in-progress" list. There you can find a "trash" icon to delete the drafts when you plan to no longer work on them.

Please let me know if you experience something different, and we'll investigate further.

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your answer, @Pginer-WMF

Sorry, when I got the deletion message I thought I'd published the translated articles. But given your answer I think I forgot to publish translations and after a year they have been deleted. It is clear, the mistake was mine.

I've also learned that I can remove drafts that I'm not going to work on anymore. It can be done in the list of contributions. It can not be done from the same page of the translation of the article.

Now I have cleaned up my list of unfinished translations.  :-)

Thank you very much for the work you do offering the Content Translation tool.
