I'm not able to find the menu to insert special characters that used to be at the bottom of the old wikisource editor. Does anyone know this feature is there? If not, will it be added?

CharInsert (sometimes called "Edit tools") is not supported. I don't think that the team is planning to support it. Which codes do you need it for?
Latin accented vowels. Always useful to have that around and would be sad to see it go.
A special characters tool built in to the visual editor's toolbar. Look for an icon that looks like Ω next to the Insert menu.
