That is correct. The iOS app doesn't support multiple articles open simultaneously. One option is to use the quick bookmark/save feature to add articles to read later, rather than opening those articles into tabs for later reading.
Is there a plan for multiple articles? I didn't see an issue in phabricator for it but I may have missed it. There are lots of issues for something else which seems to be called "multiple pages." Is there an open issue on this? And, more generally, where is the right venue to ask questions like this one? Is there a gitter-or-similar? I didn't see a chat room in phabricator dedicated to app development, but, again I may have not understood what I was looking at...
