Notifications now work properly (Just updated image link)

Davey2010 (talkcontribs)

Hi,

I ended up removing a category on over 1000 files (all of which I asked to be mass-reverted) and now It now says I have 99+ notifications and I can't get rid of it,

When I click the 99+ icon sometimes the box loads (when it does load the 99+ goes to 0 but when I go on a another page the 99+ comes back) and at times it doesn't load at all

In preferences I disabled the "edit reverts" notification and the 99+ disappeared but when I retick the box it then says 99 again,

When I've clicked the notification box and it comes up as a full page - The show more button only works so far and then gives up entirely .... So I'm at a loss as to how to get rid of it,

I can't seem to add an image but I'm hoping you get the jist lol

Thanks,

A somewhat related but minor issue: The number in the notifications icon decreases only if I visit the concerning page AND click on the notifications icon on that wiki. That's a bit difficult for me for languages where numbers have different symbols than 0...9.

Not a major issue but a bot welcomed me on Arabic Wikisource (no idea why), and I had to click several things that are W:Mojibake to me before the notification button showed a 0 again on my home wiki.

Surely any one of the two actions could decrease the counter?

Ouch! What probably happened is you got about a thousand "your edit was reverted" notifications. The best advice I can give you right now is to visit Special:Notifications on Commons, which will allow you to view more than 25 notifications and will also mark all of your notifications as read. The latter is considered a misfeature and we're getting rid of it soon, but for now that should let you get rid of the 99+ thing.

But you seem to indicate that you've been there ("it comes up as a full page"), but that something didn't work ("and then gives up entirely"). Did this at least make the 99+ go away?

EDIT: I see from the history of your comment that you tried to add this image:

Did it get stuck like that forever?

Hi Roan, I know sorry that's what I meant, I've been clicking "show more" and I can click it about 5 times and then it doesn't show any more notfiications (If it helps on the developers console it says "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'fetchUnreadCountFromApi' of undefined",....

Nope the 99+ is still there - The 99+ lights up red if I get a new notification but once read it goes back to gray, but nope the 99+ doesn't disappear at all now ...., Had I realized this was going to happen I wouldn't of asked for mass-rollback lol,

Ah thank you yep I was trying to add the image and ended up doing the entire opposite

Thanks for your help :)

Forgot to add - The 99+ is a now full thing - It's not resetting to 0 at all, Cheers, ~~~~

I've managed to load about 500 notification but the number ''still'' hasn't buggered off and obviously when I get a new notification I still get the red 99+

So can something be done like nuking all of my notifications or something?, Problem is I now never know how many notifications I have ....., I could disable the edit revert in prefs which solves the issue completely but then means I won't be notified If I'm reverted,

Thanks

Does visiting Special:Notifications mark them all as read? If that doesn't do it, you can try running the following code in your browser's JavaScript console:

new mw.Api().postWithToken( 'csrf', { action: 'echomarkread', all: 1 } );

Ah something's worked,I just constantly kept clicking the notification page and somehow it had gone from about 80 something to 51 to 34 and then to none,

Anyway thanks for your help! :)
