Topic on Talk:Content translation

Hi, I wonder if this app is really meant to work on a tablet. I am trying to work Postpartum Bleeding into Finnish using Safari, but only with very poor success:

1) no machine translation being available, there is no interest in loading the English into the translation field, OK with that, but by doing this I lose all the references. I know of no way of getting them there!

2)it is virtually impossible to get wiki links on the right words: I paint the expression, roll upwards to operate the linking tool, and on going back find the link on most bizarre words. Not once or twice but continually after my text measures more than an inch. Also when operating the linking tool I'm all too near hitting the Publish button. Scary and frustrating! Idea: make the linking tool hover and flow where it is called to work.

Any ideas? Paj (talk) 19:21, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback, @Paj.

When designing the tool we focused first on providing support to the translation process were it was more often happening. Responding to the needs of the current editors was already a big challenge.

Supporting those processes on mobile or tablets add a new set of constraints that the current tool is not optimised for. Better supporting mobile devices has a big potential and we are considering them as part of the future steps of the project (there is a general ticket to track the work in this area). Knowing more about the experience that users have when translating in those devices is really important for us, so thanks for sharing it.
