Viewing MediaWiki content offline on an Android device

Hi

What is the best way to export an *entire* mediawiki database so that it can be read offline using a Tablet or offline device. As there are many pages in this wiki, the task must be fully automated, it is not possible to select each individual wiki page entry as there are too many.

I came across the following extension, however it only appears to run with 1 wiki page and for some reason does'nt work.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EPubExport

Can you recommend any software which works, and is easy to setup alongside MediaWiki on Linux. If you have any setup instructions, that may help.

Also any advice about the output file format, which has to be read on an Android device.

Should I go for DocBook XML format or epub. I think that ZIM is out of the question.

Thanks

Why is ZIM off the table? Have you seen w:Kiwix?

Kiwix does not support Android devices and the object of the exercise is to be able to read the entire MediaWiki content offline on a portable Android device which has no network connectivity.

Furthermore, you don't mention which plugin to MediaWiki would allow exporting the MediaWiki content to ZIM format.

There was an export to html thing, but it doesn't get much love recently - Extension:DumpHTML. See https://openzim.org/Build_your_ZIM_file for info on creating ZIM files.

ZIM related stuff and extension:Collection are the export tools that get the most love.

(You could also potentially set up MediaWiki on your android, and serve it from a local webserver, but that's a pretty heavy handed approach)

There is a Kiwix App for Android in the Playstore, see: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kiwix.kiwixmobile&hl=de I still have some trouble using it, as it expects ZIM files to big stored at a specific location, and a Wikipedia dump is typically too be to be stored on most of the Androids internal storages. But as far as I can see, the Kiwix app could be used for most other (smaller) MediaWikis ZIM exports.

The Extension:DumpHTML on the other hand was a nice thing, but seems to lack some maintanence and throws up on any MediaWikis now, that I do maintain, yielding many PHP errors I am not able to fix.

There is definetly an ongoing need of multiple well working exportformats on MediaWikis. Any (additional and maintained) options here are welcome!
