How to contribute
From MediaWiki.org
MediaWiki is an open source effort, which means it relies on many different types of contributions from many different people. If you find MediaWiki useful, please consider donating some time to help us improve it.
How can you help? Becoming a hacker (writing code) is not the only way to help, although it is certainly a very useful one!
The WikiThanks image (flower icon) has been used since 2004 by Wikimedians, to say thankyou to other editors. It was first used by Anthere.
[edit] Improve content here
- If you are familiar with a MediaWiki feature, improve its documentation here! Take screenshots, provide examples, etc.
- Help transfer documentation from meta:. See Meta:MetaProject to transfer content to MediaWiki.org.
- Help out on maintenance tasks for this wiki
[edit] Translate
- Translate material here. See Project:Translation (or just leap in!)
- Help maintain interface ("system messages") translations. These are enormously useful. See TranslateWiki.
[edit] Bug reporting
- Help sort and provide feedback on bugs
- Report bugs! If something doesn't work as it should, don't just ignore it -- make sure it's reported.
- Report fixes! This is especially useful for installation and upgrading problems.
[edit] Help others
Help answer other people's questions.
- Join one of our mailing lists (probably mediawiki-l)
- Project:Support desk
- other communication channels (forums, or IRC).
[edit] Donate money
Core MediaWiki developers are employed by the Wikimedia Foundation, which is a not-for-profit organisation. Please consider donating.
