Overview
[edit]Wikibase.cloud is a service created by Wikimedia Deutschland and hosted in Germany. It is required for most digital services to have an imprint.
What is an imprint?
[edit]In this context an imprint, or impressum, is a legally mandated statement of ownership and authorship that according to the law of some countries, for example Germany, must be displayed on websites and that contains information about the site's publisher.
Do I really have to have one and how do I create a conforming imprint?
[edit]It's the responsibility of each site manager to legally check, understand and fulfill the requirements of the law. In Germany, for example, all digital services that do not exclusively fulfill personal or family-oriented purposes have to have one with at least their name and address (Sec. 18 of the “Medienstaatsvertrag”). If your Wikibase is more professional, you usually require a more detailed imprint according to Sec. 5 Digitale Dienste Gesetz. Outside of Germany, the laws may differ. Please check carefully the law applicable to you. If you are in doubt, we would highly recommend to include an imprint.

What if I already have an imprint that applies?
[edit]If you have an imprint on another site which applies in every detail to your Wikibase site, you can link to that imprint instead of making a copy.
An offsite imprint you link to must mention that it applies to your Wikibase site, and the site domain of your Wikibase site must appear in the text of that offsite imprint.
- Example: At the bottom of the wikibase.cloud homepage is an "Impressum" link that takes you to https://www.wikimedia.de/impressum/; at the bottom of that page you'll see a list of sites ("Telemedien") to which that imprint also applies.
Where do I put my imprint?
[edit]The contents of the imprint need to appear on your wiki's About page: your-wiki-name.wikibase.cloud/wiki/Project:About
On your Wikibase instance, click the underlined link to navigate to the page that should contain the imprint.
