Templates[edit]

Hello, welcome to the wiki. It has been brought to my attention that you have been creating a lot of pages (including a lot of templates) which look like they are simply copied from other Wikimedia wikis. Please can you let me know your reasons for doing this. You should be aware that the nature of this project is very different to other wikis (see about this site if you are not clear about this). Please get back to me as soon as possible - I will begin deleting the unwanted pages in the next day or so if I do not hear from you, either on this page or on my talk page. Cheers --HappyDog 23:27, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

{{ImportToMediaWiki }} is used when a page is in Meta and would be in MediaWiki
...and is therefore useless on this site.
No, MediaWiki users can import the page from Meta.
As part of the import process (which can only be performed by admins) any reference to this template should be removed. --HappyDog 02:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
{{Shortcut }} is used in a lot of pages and templates (it´s originally from Wikipedia, bus with an universal use in Wikimedia projects and non-Wikimedia projects that uses MediaWiki( see Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Shortcut
...and has no use on this wiki at the moment.
No, really it only appears in :
(List removed - see following link)
See http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Shortcut&limit=500&from=0 as said.
These pages reference that template because they were imported from meta and have not yet been fixed to have the template removed. As I said, the template has no purpose on this site. --HappyDog 02:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
{{H:h Help }} is used in help pages and templates (see Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:H:h_Help --Macv 14:27, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
...and should not be necessary here. The narrower focus should mean we don't need further navigational aids...
That said, I can see that the latter two items may be needed at some point in the distant future... however that is no reason to create them now. There is absolutely no reason to import templates 'because they exist in other wikis'. Templates should be created because there is a real need for them. In particular we want to avoid the nested template nightmares and cryptic naming schemes of en & meta, as embodied by H:h_help, so even if those templates were thought to be useful here, they would be likely be redesigned quite heavily. --HappyDog 02:19, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but don´t delete usefull pages and templates, because are used in this Wiki. In any case, this MediaWiki would include help about how to use it. This is its wake point. --Macv 13:17, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand that sentence. --HappyDog 02:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

In general, although I appreciate your enthusiasm, please try and understand a bit more about this wiki, its processes and its community before trying to impose external structures upon it. We are trying to avoid the mess that is meta, so bringing over templates etc. without thinking about their use on this site is incredibly counter-productive. --HappyDog 02:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, there is big work to execute (remove the template from all this pages). In any case, the pages in meta that have to be in MediaWiki.org are going to be deleted. --Macv 09:17, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
