The instructions do no longer work since PuggableAuth v6.0. The variable wgPluggableAuth_ButtonLabel is no longer supported, instead wgPluggableAuth_Config is mandatory required.
As as documentation of PluggableAuth mentions that other plugins need to be compatible with the new version I have downloaded the old MediaWiki V1.35 compatible version 5.7 which is deprecated but still works.
