Topic on Extension talk:DiscussionTools

Hello all; I found this extension very useful so thanks to everyone who worked on it.

I'd like to suggest a small improvement - when a user's comment is being replied to, the extension will send said user a notification. So, say user A wrote something, and user B is replying with the discussion tool; the system will send a notification to user A, saying something like "User B has replied to you on this and that talk page".

Thanks a lot!

I would note that I'd really rather not all my replies pinged the person before - often they're "replying" but if replying in normal wikitext, they'd just be the next indented point rather than specifically needing a response from the person before.

An easy "tick to ping" (somewhat like the new Discord's one, but opt-in, not opt-out) would be good

"Un-ticked by default" would be my preference. Otherwise, Echo/Notifications will be useless to high-volume editors, because it'll be stuffed with dozens of conversations. (Flow was supposed to build a fully featured feed that could handle that kind of volume, but they never got that far.)

I wonder whether it would make more sense to ping the target based on "my" characteristics or "theirs". For example, what about default-on pinging of replies to comments from all new editors (who probably don't use their watchlists as often) but not replies to experienced editors?
