Topic on Project:Support desk

I noticed here that, when references in WP articles go over 1000, they take up quite a lot of space in a way that makes text harder to read. Part of the reason for this is that they include the optional thousands comma. At VPT, others pointed out that this is inconsistent with the references section list itself, which does not use commas. So there seems to be consensus to get rid of them. Could that be done?
