When I upload the file, mediawiki.zip converted from -tar.gz file provided by this site, converted with 7-zip as recommended, (which seemed to work, it calls itself a zip file now,) and then click upload, it take a long time, and then posts

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: mediawiki-1.29.2.zip

Unpacking the package…

Installing the plugin…

The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

Plugin installation failed.

Return to Plugin Installer

The manual installation instructions on this site refer to things I don't think I have access to on wordpress, like changing root directories and such.

I downloaded xampp and their functions like mysql and apache and all that, if that is part of the manual installation to wordpress account.

If it isn't possible on wordpress, is there another free website builder that I can use that will upload mediawiki? It's essential to what I'm trying to do.

I apologize if this post appears twice, I posted and it didn't show up on this page, thought it didn't go through somehow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you.

MediaWiki is a stand-alone application and isn't designed to be installed as a WordPress plugin.

Thanks, so can I download directly to hosting provider using ftp file manager (I apparently don't have a c-panel on my account) through hostgator, or will I have to change hosting providers to one that offers mediawiki for download or has a control panel?
