Removal of langauage templates[edit]

Regarding deletion of the non-English language templates: I agree that these templates will probably not be used much here, through they could be used for the non-English subpages (but since the main navigation langauge of this site is English, I can see the English template being encouraged on all pages.) However, I thought they existed as a translation for users who created page that are proposed for deletion. Commons, for example, has translations of its deletion template in many languages. Anyways, I`m interested in what others think of having these templates.--Brian 08:51, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Brian. In my opinion, admin templates, e.g. the deletion templates, should be in English as most (if not all) site administrators understand English (even when it is not their first language). I understand why templates aimed at visitors may be required in multiple languages, so they are in the correct language for the page they are used on (although in my opinion there are far too many translations of templates that are not subsequently used at all - I would much prefer it if they were translated as they were needed rather than just sitting there unused) but admin templates should probably stay in English unless you can give a good reason how/when they would be used. There should never be non-English versions of Template:Languages however, as this is a key navigational aid. Actually, in an ideal world it would match the currently selected interface language, but I don't think that is possible (and, to be honest, only the word 'Languages' is currently in English so I don't think it's too big a deal). --HappyDog 20:22, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi HappyDog. I was thinking of it being useful for visitors who create pages- for example, someone who comes here form the botton at the bottom of Spanish Wikipedia, creates a page, then someone puts a template on it. They can click thier language for the translation, so they know what`s going on. I agree with you on the template:Languages, though, since it`s just the one word. Non-English speakers can still easily click on thier language to see the translation of the page. --Brian 01:18, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Any user-targeted templates should be in the native language, and therefore no language-links are necessary. My problem with admin-targeted templates is that they will always be in English on the page, so therefore in order for a non-English translation to be useful, the language template needs to be included in the admin template. I think this is quite confusing. The language links normally takes you to an alternative version of the same page, but suddenly one set of language links takes you to a translation of a small part of the page (the template). As I said above, if it were possible to display the admin template in the current user-interface language then the problem would be solved, but I don't think that it is. --HappyDog 21:49, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Talk Delete[edit]

For consistency in conversations, if a IP-user posts a Link Spam in a talk conversation, i would like to be able to use this template, or a derivative, to post in the body of the reply so that it can be removed by a Admin and manage the posting of the IP address if it is consistently used to post erroneous spam.
