Template talk:Cmd

About this board

Summary by AKlapper (WMF)

No, don't - it's implemented via CSS!

@Waldyrious: This is a lovely template, thanks for that. Would it be possible to remove the "$" prefix formatting? A number of Google Code-in students copied both the dollar sign and the command on Gerrit/Tutorial/tl;dr and wondered why commands didn't work.

That's strange. The "$" is not selectable since it's inserted via CSS. Since it's a pretty common way to indicate a command prompt (and one that people will likely encounter again even if they're first seeing it here), I'd rather not remove it altogether. Perhaps we could make it optional, though, via a parameter. WDYT?

Also, I just edited the tl;dr page to start each command in a new line, since the "$" indicates precisely the start of a command line; maybe that can also help a bit with this issue.

Uh, maybe I misremember and students used Gerrit/Tutorial instead where the $ was not implemented via CSS! Alright, I had not realized that it cannot be copied, so please ignore my request. Going to start using this template as is. :)
