Consider GitLab
[edit]I know the danger of thinking about magic products that solve a large number of separate/related problems, but... several large FOSS projects (Debian & GNOME at least) are in the process of moving some or all of their git repo, code review, task tracking, and/or CI/CD workflows to GitLab.
My why for this particular choice is pretty well stated in the GNOME blog post linked above: "The GNOME Foundation believes that the move to GitLab will encourage people with various skill sets, not just coding, to contribute to GNOME more regularly, as well as encourage contributors to explore other areas of the GNOME Project that they may not have initially considered." - We're seriously considering GitLab, see T217594. ZFilipin (WMF) (talk) 12:36, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
- That said, we're also concerned about GitLab's "open core" nature. We'll be looking at various options to see if there's something that can provide what GitLab provides, as far as functionality and upstream support goes, without the open core aspect. Work continues. A friendly heads up that RFC: Add a frontend build step to skins/extensions to our deploy process is up for discussion on 20th March, 2019 (announced here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2019-March/091630.html). This WG's input would be incredibly helpful. Phuedx (WMF) (talk) 09:42, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! Planning to attend. BBearnes (WMF) (talk) 17:04, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Is this page obsolete?

Is this page {{historical}} by GitLab consultation? AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 11:55, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, replaced by the GitLab effort. LarsWirzenius (talk) 13:02, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I probably should have been more explicit myself that the page should explicitly say so and use the "historical" template.
