Mistake in Template:Maintenance_script_legacy
[edit]I wanted to report it to the appropriate talk page:
Incorrent link text version
It correctly links to version 1.39 with misleading wrong text 1.43.6 :OOO ,
but wasn't allowed to and instead asked to write here. ~2026-74241-4 (talk) 12:34, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- Fixed. That said, this entire template is approaching obsolescence since 1.39 is no longer supported and we should consider removing it entirely. * Pppery * it has begun 16:33, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
Move draft in my user page to main namespace
[edit]Hello,
I have written User:Diskdance/Overview_of_Language_Converter as an effort to improve the documentation of Language Converter in MediaWiki. Thus, I would like to request these following changes:
- User:Diskdance/Overview_of_Language_Converter to be merged with Writing_systems/LanguageConverter, then to move to Language Converter;
- Writing_systems/Syntax to move to Language Converter/Advanced syntax;
- LanguageConverter to be redirected to Language Converter.
Since I can't do the merge part, to avoid collaboration problems, I would like to ask an admin to do all of these at once, thank you!
cc @Winston Sung, @Lakejason0, @Cscott and @Neil_Shah-Quinn_(WMF). Diskdance (talk) 10:15, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Diskdance I tried to merge the histories, but it failed with the following error: "Cannot change current revision of either page via MergeHistory (except when merging the entire source page into the destination page)" Shirayuki (talk) 10:29, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Diskdance Unable to move Writing systems/Syntax due to the following error: "This translatable page consists of over 500 pages. Due to reliability issues, moving translatable pages that consist of more than 500 pages cannot be done through the user interface. Please file a Phabricator task and fill in the fields of the form to request the system administrators to perform the page move on your behalf." Shirayuki (talk) 06:06, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- The original talk page (Talk:Writing systems/LanguageConverter) appears deleted. Can someone restore it (and move Talk:Writing systems/LanguageConverter/Flow to the new name)? Srapoj (talk) 10:37, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Srapoj: I specified that the associated talk page and subpages should be moved together, but the Flow page in question was not moved and an error occurred. As you requested, I have restored the talk page. -- Shirayuki (talk) 12:19, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- I thought there should be a talk page with content converted from the Flow board. I'm not sure if Flow boards are still movable now that it's set to read-only. Probably User:Pppery can check the situation here? Srapoj (talk) 16:18, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- I have unclobbered the talk page - Talk:Language Converter now contains the exported version as it should. It's technically impossible for anyone other than the WMF sysadmins (via an extremely manual process) to move Flow boards - the Flow board can be left as is. * Pppery * it has begun 17:11, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

- Filed T417210 for the second move, which remains to be done. * Pppery * it has begun 17:18, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Diskdance: I consider Language Converter/Syntax to be an adequate and shorter title for the document page. --Srapoj (talk) 17:37, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
Remove outdated “New” terminology
[edit]Hi! I am a new contributor here. While I was working on T416293, I noticed that the page https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:New_filters_for_edit_review still uses old “New filters” wording, even though the feature was introduced in 2017 itself. I suggest updating the text to remove the outdated “New” terminology (e.g., “Filters for edit review” instead of “New filters for edit review”) while keeping the technical content unchanged. Since the page is semi-protected, I’m posting my suggestion here. Complicatedintegral (talk) 15:44, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- The "old" filters still exist (if you use the non-JS interface) so this seems ill-advised. Nardog (talk) 14:54, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
Request to document an additional geolocation API for CookieConsent
[edit]I am trying to add documentation for an additional IP geolocation API that is compatible with the CookieConsent MediaWiki extension.
The API provides IP-based country code lookup and follows the same configuration pattern as the currently documented geolocation services (pro.ip-api.com, ip-api.com, ipwho.is).
My edit was blocked by the abuse filter because it includes an external link, even though the content is strictly documentation-related. I also attempted to propose this on the extension’s Discussion page but encountered the same filter.
Could someone advise whether it is acceptable to document this additional geolocation API on the Extension:CookieConsent page, or add it on my behalf if appropriate? Anwar holmes (talk) 07:24, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
- Due to spam we had to disable adding links from very new accounts. If you can write it out, without the https prefix, you can do that, ping me and I'll add it properly (if appropriate). —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talk • contribs) 11:12, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

No access to some parts of the text for translation
[edit]The translation of Help:Watchlist labels in french Aide:Étiquettes de liste de suivi is completed to 100%. Thus, two sentences from the beginning of the article cannot be reached and translated, and stay in English in the french text (same for other langages). Sentences are : "The watchlist labelling feature of MediaWiki allows you to add labels to items in your watchlist to help with managing and filtering watchlists, especially large ones." and : "Note that for wikis using MobileFrontend and Minerva Neue, watchlist labels are only available in advanced mode."
Can you fix it ? Thanks. Waltercolor (talk) 23:15, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Added the markup in https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Help:Watchlist_labels&diff=prev&oldid=8214509. I'll give Shirayuki (who usually handles this stuff) a chance to review before marking it for translation, so probably later today. * Pppery * it has begun 16:35, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Pppery, it isn't fixed and I'm still not able to translate the concerned parts in french (same bug about these 2 sentences in all translations). Can you ping me when it's available for translation ? Thanks. Waltercolor (talk) 10:05, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Waltercolor: It's available now (as of about an hour and a half after your comment, while I was asleep). * Pppery * it has begun 15:54, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

IMPORTANT: Admin activity review
[edit]Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis with no inactivity policy. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.
We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for more than 2 years):
- User:Brooke Vibber (bureaucrat, administrator)
- User:Dantman (bureaucrat, administrator)
- User:Jayprakash12345 (administrator)
- User:Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (administrator)
- User:Praxidicae (administrator)
- User:RobLa (administrator)
These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.
However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. Thanks, EPIC (talk) 17:55, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- I would like to keep my administrator rights. TIA! -- RobLa (talk) 03:21, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
