Extension talk:WikibaseCirrusSearch

About this board

Suggestion: Provide labels for wikibasecirrussearch (e.g. haswbstatement)

Use case:

As a user, I want to see user friendly descriptions of search queries involving statements.

Proposed solution

Intercept and provide labels for items and properties when the query requires them.

For example:

  1. Go to commons
  2. Enter "haswbstatement:P180=Q146" (https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=haswbstatement%3AP180%3DQ146&ns0=1&ns6=1&ns12=1&ns14=1&ns100=1&ns106=1)

Expected:

Below the search interface a message saying "Showing files with tags depicting (P180) cats (PQ146).

Actual

No label

Note: This has recently become more useful now that commons makes searching for them easier.

Suggestion: Show structured caption in search results

Issue:

Sometimes it is not immediately clear why a file is returned in image results, or even what it is, consider searching for "cat" in commons. Currently it shows "https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:B%C3%B6dele_Winterpanorama_2013.jpg&oldid=282845830". It is not immediately obvious, even when viewing the file page why it claims to include a "Cat" (it seems to be referring to the "snow mobile".

Use case:

As a user, I'd like to see the most relevant caption in search results, instead of random text.

Proposed solution:

  • Show the caption (when available) above the search snippet;
  • Show the caption in the user's language ; or alternatively in the wiki default language.

Suggestion: Consider adding haslabel:all

Issue:

It is currently not possible to evaluate all items without labels. Currently, through the use of haslabel like haslabel:en one can see all labels written in specific language.

Use case

As a user, I'd like to only add labels to items that don't have any at all.

As a user, I'd like to see the total number of items that do have labels.

As a user, for tools like Extension:WikibaseMediaInfo, I'd like to filter only items within a category without labels.

It seems like a natural extension of the current functionality.
