The REL1_35 branch will work with MediaWiki version 1.35 & REL1_35 codebase updated with proper documentation.

I'm a bit confused. Here it says that it's compatible with Mediawiki 1.35+, but on git it says "Requirements: Mediawiki 1.36+".

Good question! The README in git seems to be incorrect. The REL1_35 branch will work with MediaWiki version 1.35, as you can see here.
