The Random Root Page extension allows to display of a random root page. The regular Special:Random is not suitable for wikis (such as Wikibooks) which use a subpage hierarchy. This extension can be used as a substitute (so, for example, it can be used to show "random books" in Wikibooks, instead of random pages).

Starting with MediaWiki version 1.27, this functionality is moved into MediaWiki core and this extension must be removed.

  • Download and place the file(s) in a directory called Randomrootpage in your extensions/ folder.

    require_once "$IP/extensions/Randomrootpage/Randomrootpage.php";
  • YesY Done - Navigate to Special:Version on your wiki to verify that the extension is successfully installed.
