About this board

Please provide feedback about the Content translation tool on this page.

We suggest checking the Frequently Asked Questions page first.

When reporting a bug, it will help a lot if you will indicate the following things:

  • Which article were you translating and to which language
  • Which browser did you use (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc.)
  • If you're getting any errors, please provide log from browser console if possible. To open browser console: press Ctrl+Shift+j (or cmd+alt+J () on a Mac).

In case you are familiar with Phabricator, please consider reporting a bug there.

The tool as a formatting tool

Though it is probably off-topic, I appreciate how the tool formats and gets an article ready for translation. Since I would rather rewrite and rephrase than translate, I wish I could use the tool only for formatting without having to translate.

Automatic Translation from Italian to English Doesn't Work

3
Digressivo (talkcontribs)

I attempted to use the automatic translation tool to translate this page from Italian to English, but I encountered an error stating: "Translation services not available for the selected languages." In theory, translation from Italian to English should be supported by services such as Google Translate, and notably, the reverse translation from English to Italian works without issues.

You can just copy and paste the text to the machine transpation and then copy and paste the translated text back. What is your problem? --~~~~

Hi, what happened?

So... Whenever I try to translate something into my home language (Filipino), I am met with a white screen instead of the article, and the place to translate says "Start with an empty sentence." What happened here?

ItsMeGabeProductions (talkcontribs)

If Mediawiki wants, I can send them an image.

UOzurumba (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello @ItsMeGabeProductions,

I have tried translating an article from English to Tagalog but did not encounter the issue you mentioned. Maybe you can provide the following information if you are still encountering the issue:

  • Which article were you translating and to which language
  • Which browser did you use (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc.)
  • If you're getting any errors, please provide log from browser console if possible. To open browser console: press Ctrl+Shift+j (or cmd+alt+J () on a Mac); you can also provide a screenshot.

Thank you!

Automatic editing filters have detected problematic content in your translation. Number of filters: Content translator changes.

I am working link below ;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadzeya_Malasai

I am using Chorme but for fix this problem i try also Edge...

I checked the Template and Table contents many times. I also checked the formulas by entering the accepted version of the previous translations, but I still continue to get the same error.

Where exactly is the solution and the work I'm doing wrong?

Thank you for your effort.

Eambertide (talkcontribs)

I have the exact same problem happening to me right now, is there a problem with content translation tool on Turkish wiki? It would be a shame as it is a good way to add new content.

Translation for Santali Language

RIT RAJARSHI (talkcontribs)

In Santali Wikipedia (https://sat.wikipedia.org). It seems currently there is no machine translation feature, and it just adds the original paragraphs without any kind of translation. Unfortunately Google does not provide any kind of translation of this language. It would be great if an autotranslation feature exist for this language.

Thanks @RIT RAJARSHI , for your suggestion. We will be initiating this process and definitely work on this. We will be in touch with you, looking forward for your support,

@RIT RAJARSHI, there is no machine translation for Santali anywhere on the web, unfortunately. This is not something that the developers of Content Translation can do all by themselves.

If anyone ever develops a machine translation engine for Santali, we may try to integrate it here.

Until this happens, Content Translation is usable without machine translation and provides useful features: display of the source and the translation side-by-side, one-click image and link adaptation, some template adaptation, and more. Indeed, Content Translation was used to translate more than 90 articles into Santali, and I hope that you use it to translate more, even if machine translation is not available now :)

A page translated, reviewed but not allowed to publish - too much machine translation

UOzurumba (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello Josef kalcik,

Please provide details of the exact message of the 14 issues on the page. In other words, check the warning messages on the right panel and share the most frequent ones you are getting in this thread.

I will also add that there is an initial automatic translation limit mechanism in the Content Translation tool to ensure that translators review and modify the initial machine translation so that the original context of the article is maintained before they can publish. You must review and modify the automatic machine translation to have only 79% of the initial machine translation (you must modify or edit the automatic machine translation by 21% before publishing a translated article in your wiki). Thank you!

Josef kalcik (talkcontribs)

Hi @UOzurumba (WMF) currently I see 12 messages. They all say "The part of your translation contains XX% of unchanged text." It is more than 79%. However I checked all the text and it seems perfectly fine. I am not able to mark it as checked. Please advise how I can proceed.

UOzurumba (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello @Josef kalcik,

The calculation of the automatic translation limit is based on different considerations, as explained on this page. So, reviewing and modifying the translation more than the stated threshold will give you a better chance to publish. Consider restructuring (modifying) the machine translation sentences better, ensuring the meaning and context of the source article, sentences or paragraphs are maintained.

I believe you are fluent in the languages (the language source and the one you are translating to), and you understand the linguistic rule that applies to them.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you!

RU, ENG, UA translation draft: empty columns?

1
Space011 (talkcontribs)

This has happened multiple times with the articles I've worked on:

Draft:Danube Biosphere Reserve in Ukraine

Участник:Space011/Черновик: Родник для жаждущих

Draft:Sanitation Harvest

Користувач:Space011/WikiHow

I previouly published them as community drafts and today I came back to them to only see this error - Your translation cannot be published because publishing is only allowed to more experienced editors on this wiki. and empty columns! zero of my last additions are visible (even though they were!)

can someone please elaborate why it happened and how can I avoid this in the future? Wiki requests more translations to languages other than English but if this keeps happening, I won't be able to help!

*I can also attach page source if that helps

Limit of 98% in automated translation from catalan to spanish too tight

1
Xfmol (talkcontribs)

I'm translating a Wikipedia article from catalan to spanish. The automated translation results very good, and I had to change very few issues. But I am prevented to publish because more than the 98% of the automated translation has not been modified. How can I publish the translation? I've tried to cut and then paste some paragraphs of the automated translation (to simulate a text modification), but still the 98% count isn't decreased!.
