[edit] Gratitude

Hello Steven. I just wanted to leave you a note of gratitude and to thank you for all your work on the various Wikimedia projects. I'm especially thankful for your efforts on new editor retainment because this is what keeps our projects running. I saw Oliver post this comment recently and I think it's true. Over the last year or so, I've seen the enwp community go after the WMF staff like I've never seen before. It's quite unnerving and I can only imagine what it's like for you. The community has become quite nasty, and from my perspective, you seem to get a lot of that awful feedback, so I'd like to try and offset some of that.

Here's what i've noticed and why I'm thankful you are here. You've been wonderful for the community, providing very valuable input to conversations at RFCs, the village pumps and elsewhere. Your encouragement of new editors is great and very generous of you and the help you provide them is outstanding. This type of collaboration is what made Wikipedia grow so fast and you've got that collaborative spirit like nobody else. But what makes you really valuable is that you've truly been engaged here. You work on content and building the encyclopedia. You help with the operations side in your volunteer capacity and you also help on the professional side with the WMF. I've also noticed how cordial and polite you are with others, even when they are not so nice to you. That's very honorable of you and so I have to acknowledge what a fine person you are. It's really nice that you give so much of yourself to the project and I must say your one of the top Wikipedian's that has ever existed. So thank you for all you do. I know there are a number of people that are thankful you are here and I hope the nice comments you receive help offset some of the terrible ways you've been treated. All the best to you. 64.40.54.198 00:07, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
