Something something arbitrary notifications I don't even know.

Generic

Possible miscellaneous use cases:

• bots (bot to whoever)
• site js (client-side js to user)
• lua templates (?)
• smw/dpl calls (?)
• error reporting

Gadgets

Probably want some sort of interface so gadgets can send custom notifications. Probably want to simplify it so only certain options can be used, in order to mitigate potential damage?

Waiting on gadgets 2.0? Would likely require a fancy editing form before this would become feasible. Currently the only complicated options seem to be RL-related, and there is only so much damage that can do, but unwanted notification spam can be much more dangerous. (And the common use case for the clueless adding new ones is to just copy existing ones and hope they work.)

Use cases:

• Teahouse gadget to notify people of responses/new questions (workaround for flow)
• WikiProject gadgets to show changes in lists, statuses, discussions, either upon visit or in general
• AfD and similar notifications (specific notification to appear instead of a generic mention or whatever when an article is nominated for deletion etc) (would this really be user-side?)
• Urgh
