English: This large charcoal drawing shows a man seated at his desk, reading a document. A tole lamp in the Empire style gives off a bright light. A small child appears to be feeding paper into the fireplace; a tea kettle is placed above. White fringed shades are drawn to the tops of the windows, which are dressed with a swagged valance on a pole. There is a partial view of a striped carpet in the foreground.
