Summary

Description
English: A slime mould - Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa More precisely, this is Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa var. fruticulosa, which is abundant in Britain from early summer on. It will often be found growing on damp fallen wood, or among moss on wood. 'Fruticulosa' is the usual variety encountered in Britain; another variety, 'arbuscula', is the most common form in the tropics, but it is known from only a few British sites; the two varieties differ in their branching patterns. As can be seen here, this slime mould is made up of little radiating clusters of tubules. Through a hand-lens, these tubules can be seen to be transparent and hollow, each one having a hole at the end.
