Exceptions to the terms of use must be requested by email. Requests can be made to the Wikimedia Labs staff (TODO: create an alias for this). Exceptions must provide a rationale for an exception, and a scope of the exception. Examples of valid exemption requests:
- Exception to open source policy: DB2, Oracle, MSSQL, etc are needed for database testing (rationale). I am requesting to have a project created called database-testing, where these software packages can be installed, with valid software licenses (scope).
- Exception to hacking policy: I would like to do penetration testing of MediaWiki and its dependent libraries (rationale). I would like a project called mediawiki-pentest where I can do port scans, sql injection attacks, etc. (scope).
