User:TiagoLubiana/Beginners guide to translation

From mediawiki.org

This is a introduction to using the templates for translation!

They are super cool, and the doc page has lots of information (Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_administration), but it has too much information.

This is a guide to get started with translations on Wiki projects.

The Extension:Translate is a tool to standardize wiki content accross languages. It can be used on wikiproject pages, documentation pages and so on.

Who can add translations?[edit]

Anyone can mark pages with translation tags, but they can only be really be made a translation-enabled page by administrators.

Adding tags[edit]

Text for translation is marked with ‎<translate> and ‎</translate> tags. These are added around the chunks of text that will be translated by translators.

There are a few rules about how to best use those tags, but generally, just keep the chunks of text between the tags small.
