Why not do away with all this frustrating BS of edits conflicts?
Allow one active editor at a time to work on an article - period. Set a 15 or 30 minute time limit and warn the active editor when the time limit is about to expire. If the active editor does not save their edits before the expiration, Wikipedia discards the edits and opens the article up to a new editor.
